Kathy my wife came from Big 'O' Turk and we met here in Somerset, But moved back home to Dalgety Bay Fife for 13 years working for Hughes Micro Electronics designing SMPSU for NASA, Boeing and a few others. Got whipped off to Huntsville Alabama to work directly with NASA, met some crazy and lovely people there. I would love to go back to Scotland just because family are there and the fantastic vista's. Would move to Comrie near Crieff, but the house prices are crazy high there.

I can imagine Alabama being like that, but not the actuallity of it I'm sure

I've experienced -20C near Hamburg when I was living there. That's verging on the dangerous and you have to think carefully before going out for any reason.

Wow Didn't realise Germany could be that cold Coldest I ever cycled in is -4 and I was very well wrapped I find the effect of temperature seems to jump at certain points. It may only be 1 or 2 degrees different but the body says much more

Back on topic, one of the reasons why my sister finally left Aberdeen (her husband is in the oil industry) was because of the relentless cold for much of the year. She works with horses so, as you could imagine, she's outside for most of the day. Now she lives in Houston and swelters!

Scotland is possibly my favourite place in the world. I think I'm a pretty well-travelled chap but the countryside there is just unique and staggeringly beautiful. I have some wonderful memories from two holidays with my wife. Stayed in this amazing small hotel at Glencoe which was a laird's house, where supposedly they plotted the massacre at Glencoe! They had a Swiss chef there who produced amazing meals and a lovely lady owner who used to change into evening gowns to host dinner. Sadly I believe the hotel is no more ... Will never forget going to Culloden - absolutely steeped in atmosphere, what a place ... Would go back in a heart-beat but found it very pricey indeed, so it's going to have to wait before I introduce my son to the delights of Scotland.

Love it too, but then I'm biased!
I come from a small village called Braemar, which is in the Guinness Book of Records as the coldest place in the UK at - 27. Now that was cold!

You are so right, we lived in Inverness, then Dalgety Bay that was cold enough. But lovely country side, I miss it.

The very last holiday we had, which was shortly before we cam out here (no chance now, all work and no play) was to stay on Mull, just up the road from Tobermory. We did quite a bit of touring though and went out on whale trips and the whole tourist bit. Couldn't agree more, its the most beautiful place. My shot of the usual castle.

I stayed in Bunessan (sp?) on Mull once, many years ago. Very remote, very different way of life. Exhilarating for a short stay.

Good thread this. Must dig out some of my pics as I'm pretty well travelled around this stunning country.

Great to see some awesome photos and some big love for Scotland. I did a road trip around the country last year, stunning views. We're organising a small Audio Show in Edinburgh which is to take place on the 22nd - 23rd November, this maybe of interest to some of you so I thought I'd share the link www.chestergroup.org/audioworldscotland/2014
