I am going to try the monitor audio silver 100. Hopefuly extend a bit lower and have the same liquid mids as the 50 I've got the forerunner of those - Monitor Audio Silver RX2s - on my NVA setup. I've had them from new and never even considered changing them. I really like what they do.

Vibration is the enemy of music and good bass I know of some lovely PRO9-TLs that are rock solid.

I wish I had the room for them

I have just connected the Monitor Audio SA 100 7g speakers Early days yet I feel that they have to open up more. However, the bass is not bloating and has no treble nastiness. I am pretty sure more to come from them.

My other conclusion is that whatever standmounts I get will not be end game for me for that; I think I have to pay more money So that thought can stay on hold whilst I seek good enough

Do you ever miss your Jamo open baffles, John?

You mean the Hawthorne They were nice but very hard to get the mids punching. So that explosive sound I know is on certain parts I did not hear with any of my open baffles. What they do well is clean bass and the frameless is the best I heard. They can also do scale and layering well. The biggest issue I find in all of this is getting the bass to where I would like it I prefer timbre over the sacrifice of bass extension

I thought you had a pair of Jamos before the Hawthorns, but my memory's getting old now.

I was seriously and surprisingly impressed by a pair of Heco standmounts at a Scalford Wigwam show quite a few years ago. I walked into the room and was rather put off by the cool ultra modern styling, but then the music started and I was a bit jaw dropped by the naturalness of the sound. I've no idea if they would give you the midrange punch that you seek, though.
It's a shame that you are restricted to smallish standmounts as I have a sneaking suspicion that appropriately driven Apogee ribbon speakers would have a big smile appearing on your face! I'd wager a fair amount that's the sort of sound you are after. .... I'm speaking of my experience with Justin's (user211) speakers. I'm pretty sure you'd need a change of amp with those, though.

Those Apogees resemble driving a dead short circuit. Feeble amplifiers need not apply. Big Krells would warm up John's room to tropical temperatures.

The Apogee are lovely sounding speakers, precisely what I would be after in term of dynamics and punch Now to win the lottery

Sorry yes, I had Jamo concerts 8 Nope that treble is awful Silverline SR17 with good subs now we are talking I have been thinking about that a lot However, I believe modern speakers have greatly improved in the last five years. Bang for bucks just ridiculous what mid-range speakers can do

Unfortunately, I only had a 14-day return window They said they would take 100 hours to bed in. However, I have no reference point to what they could do and was not prepared to take the risk

Now I've confirmed the sort of sound you're after, I'll have a think and see if I can suggest anything suitable. Although suggesting a lottery win might not be considered helpful!

.... Clearly (to me) you and Justin have similar tastes and requirements. His 2nd system has small standmounts - Mark and Daniels ribbon hybrids. I forget which model. Amazing little things with real dynamic clout. But they are among the most power hungry speakers I have ever come across, though. Worth looking out for and having a listen if you can, imo.

I wonder about small Magnepan panel speakers. SMGa, MMG, 0.7. Plus a subwoofer. But they may not be practical for you.

How about JBLs? They have the right general characteristics and nobody ever accused a JBL of not having clout. EDIT: it seems that they hardly sell anything worthwhile in the UK market

I had a pair of vintage JBL L110 monitors. Marvellous things. Cost me less than £200. Quite often see interesting vintage JBL around.

Thanks guys so nice speakers to lust after I have never heard JBL speaker But certainly worth a audition I know I need to upgrade the Temple at some point I never noticed before but they can be a bit dry in the mids. Not as bad as some other class d but still their I will look into Magnepan. Again I think panel might be a good option but guess will need to hear some first No prices on the Mark and Daniels but be very surprised within budget and would mean a early amp upgrade
