No doubt, they will improve further. They create a nice wide sound stage, and the treble is so clean. Of course it's a different experience to my 8 kefs, that's like having a band in your room. There keepers

If I didn't already have good speakers for my main PC, I'd order a pair immediately.

If I didn't already have good speakers for my main PC, I'd order a pair immediately. I was thinking precisely the same thing. I even got to the stage of trying to justify doing it anyway.

To be honest they deserve to be partnered with really decent gear and not just used as bookshelf speakers

I'm sure the SMSL Q5 Pro would drive them decently.

I have one big issue with these speakers, and that is they do not do justice to crunch guitars on the heavier material I like, such as Dream Theatre and Pain of Salvation for me, this is critical and whilst better stands might sort this out but a lot of investment for a maybe

Hmm that is a problem John. Can't imagine expensive stands solving it either. Your amps are very explicit so I can only imagine the D7 midrange a tad smooth and refined for your taste? I imagine they sound great with classical. This was the exact same problem I had with my Tannoys and why they ultimately got sent on their way.

How do they perform with voice, John? That's a showstopper for me: poor midrange = useless speakers.

Mids are mostly lush apart from crunch guitars that sound like fizz

l been messaging John in regards to the crunch of guitar, and l don't seem to have any issues with the sound, of course we run different set ups. From my own point of view, l would say the D7 are analytical, and you can pick up on the effect pedals being used on the guitar, reverb trails, etc ..compared to my Kefs 3000 centers. l would say check some out via Amazon, at least you can return them, if there not for you, in my case, l am keeping, more positives than negatives.
Looking forward to hearing about your next set of speakers John.
