Technology or user error caused me to be without tomatoes this week
Thought.... gears turned slowly
We have tinned tomatoes and I only ever cook them anyway Worked out quite well. Strong tomatoey taste too
While in the cupboard I spied a large amount of stuff we will never use unless I add it to lunch or dinner. Watch this space
Easily dumped in the blender too.....

I'll be looking at all the other stuff in cans, and there is a lot of it Increase my biome and could taste so good it becomes a part of my diet

Another addition to my smoothie ingredients. I added an apple (a Kanzi), cored, but skin-on tonight. So I'm currently slurping: apple, nectarine, peach, banana, goji berries, and Alpro Hazelnut Milk. I gave "strong" flavours, like the prunes, a night off. I didn't even add youghurt (deliberate) or honey (forgot DOH!)

My smoothie mix is gradually being refined. Apples are definitely in, I've even bought an apple corer that matches my pineapple corer/slicer. The one I was using was actually better, in that it also slices the apples, but unfortunately it also removes the skin, which I want to leave on. Swings and roundabouts... do not go in a smoothie. The " Sainsbury's Frozen Peach & Nectarine Slices" I tried were incredibly bland. I'm going to give this a try when my stock of frozen fruit is depleted enough, in a couple of weeks maybe. It's a "Sainsbury's own," sort of affair, and it costs £2.75 for 1Kg. Bearing in mind the ingredients are listed as "blackberries, strawberries, blackcurrants and redcurrants," and nothing else, how bad can it be? I'll let you know. I've ordered some frozen pineapple to arrive this Saturday for a bit of a change, and some more frozen black cherries. I've dropped yoghurt from the mix altogether now, and just use almond milk for my liquid content, and the base is still that, plus a whole freash banana, a hand full of Goji berries, and (currently) a whole fresh apple. I've just started trying to source some pomegranate seeds at a reasonable price, and work out the difference in efficacy between fresh, freeze-dried, and powdered. At first glance "fresh" is leading the field. Finally (you'll be pleased to hear) I keep forgetting to add honey to my mix, which is good, because it means the mix is sweet enough on its own, but bad because I like honey for the health benefits, and the flavour. I have no idea why I bothered to tetll you that other than that I am now in full rambling mode, so will shut up.

Would like to see if I can juice for the entire year, maybe it could become a permanent habit, and interested to see how my own juicing will evolve.
Paul, did anything ever come of the Matcha Green Tea experiment? I still have plenty laying around d I just have no idea if I'm experiencing any health benefits from it.
It seems your juicing skills are in hot pursuit of the coveted #1 slot on your special set of skills chart on which Googling seems to still reign Supreme. Would love to follow the progress and see what you'll cobble together over this year with smoothies. Maybe I too could benefit from your findings.

Juicing currently not in my regime Celery at lunchtime. Carrots and broccoli with evening meal None dominate the taste

The Matcha is still sitting in the cupboard, unopened. I was waiting until I finished up my " ordianry" green tea before I broke the airtight seal, but then I stopped drinking green tea in favour of juice and water. I really must just open it and give it a go. As for smoothies, what I want it what I've pretty much got, which is an all-purpose fruit base to which I can add things with a strong-ish flavour/acidity like prunes, pineapple, etc. to vary the overall taste, so it doesn't become boring.

Yes, yes it doesn't taste nice lol. I close my nose and drink it for it's perceived health properties which amongst others are a natural appetite suppressant. The belief is that matcha contains a lot of a type of antioxidant called a catechin, which appears in all green teas, moreso though in Matcha. In this case it's the catechin called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). It's believed that EGCG triggers the release of the hormone cholecystokinin (CCK). I'd read somewhere that the body produces CCK when food touches the tip of the large intestine to tell the body to stop eating/satiation had occured. The more contact with that section of intestine the more CCK is produced until eventually the brain gets the signal to stop eating. Personally I couldn't tell if it was working.
