So after searching and reading good things about Beresford Caiman II here and elsewhere I recently purchased one to run my Marantz CD60 and Spotify (via phone) through. I read that coax is preferable input to USB but had a senior moment and purchased coax to 3.5mm jack, to connect my phone, which of course is analogue. I've searched and can't be sure of how to rescue this, would a simple USB C (other phone out option) to female 3.5mm adaptor between new cable and phone work, or do I need something else entirely? Any advice great fully received, I'm a bit lost now!

I'm dead happy with my Bluetooth adaptor connected to my DAC My laptop (your phone) sends the signal Music magically comes through

What do you want your phone to do? Act like a streamer and produce a digital signal for your DAC? I am not sure if that is possible. Maybe there is an App that can do this? With the Qobuz or Spotify apps the phone acts like streamer and DAC together. As outputs I use either Bluetooth or the 3.5 mm analogue jack. My streamer runs the squeezebox server software so on my phone I have an App that works like a remote control. The streamer still does all the work in sending digital signals to DAC. Hope this helps.

Mansie, that's right, phone is the streamer and was hoping the Beresford, when connected to the phone via the USB C phone port, would circumvent the phone's internal DAC, like a cheapo inline DAC does that I've used with a tablet/Spotify

I've never come across a wired output from phone to DAC but why not try?
USB to USB would be the obvious solution. Maybe Stan knows if it could work - he is on this forum.
If that doesn't work the next cheapest solution might be buying a Bluetooth audio receiver as has been suggested. You can stream to that from your phone.
Or do what I do and use an Asus Tinkerboard as a streamer with Volumio OS, controlled by either your phone, tablet or computer.

I used the wired from tablet to inline DAC to pre amp before as it was cheap to do, and seemed to work. Still seems a low cost idea, well, had I not bought the wrong cable. 🙂

Not useful immediately, but bluetooth is an option. Means you could sit with your phone, as it acts as remote/streamer.

The adapter should work, but USB C can quickly come loose. It's worth giving a try Another vote for Bluetooth if you have an Android nine or above phone You can get a receiver for just over £30/on Ali Express must do BT 5 if you want to use your phone as a streaming device

Bluetooth is looking like the best option but what's the sound quality like? I've read it's not great but what's your experience?

Bluetooth into the Gustards (John's A22 or my X26 Pro) can sound very, very good indeed, if you have an Android phone capable of BT5.

Agree best way to do this is with something like a Gustard or m400 feom SMSL just need a Anroid phone. But the method I gave above will work well with your present DAC but will need to add a Coaxial digital cable

I had 5 Bluetooth receivers. More for family that me. Ended up with something similar to above for one of my daughters into her NuForce amp. Easy to set up coax out. She also takes a digital out from her TV, so gets TV streaming sound through her system. Even with the limitations of Spotify, it sounds good. And John's recommendations of using LDAC, BT5 would push it further.

So I've received and got working a little BT box that has LDAC and aptX capability. Been in developer options on my phone and turned everything up 🙂 Was the link to do with that or something else?
