I've been enjoying this YouTube channel for a while now. Dr. R. Douglas Helvering YouTube is a classically trained composer of music & university lecturer among other things. He freely admits that throughout his life he has missed out on rock, metal, prog and pop music and he uses his channel to offer his opinion on music as he is (mostly) hearing it for the first time.
He has a really entertaining way of analysing music and breaking it down, always managing to bring a new insight to music I previously thought that I knew well.
I was looking forward to this one for the last week and Doug didn't disappoint.
Classical Composer Reacts to Diary of a Madman (Ozzy Osbourne) | The Daily Doug (Episode 232)
I had to chuckle at his pronunciation of drummer Lee Kerslake's name - Lee Kurslacky!

I have seen a few of his reaction videos. They are few other people who do a deep dive into music that have a interesting perspective.

I love the screenshot on the video thumbnail of his mind being blown by his first taste of Zappa.

Thanks for that, Chris. Absolutely epic music, the best thing Yes ever did.
Fascinating to hear a musician's take on it, he really gets it. His first comment: no band sounds like this! Interesting how he focusses immediately on Chris Squire's bass. Wonderful analysis.
The only near-equivalent depicting warfare I can think of is Tarkus by ELP.

As I said, he is very insightful. Glad that you found it interesting. There are a lot more like it on his channel, and thinking of you specifially, you might like to hear his thoughts on Drive Home by Steven Wilson.

Like his comments even though sometimes intrusive Ozzy's track was great apart from his singing Yes was ok but not quite my cup of tea Zappa was Zappa. Lots going on

I grew to quite like him and find his 'reviews' both entertaining and often quite enlightening. So much so that I chose to support him via Patreon. It doesn't cost much and I only occasionally watch him these days, but still think he's worth supporting for the entertainment he has provided / still provides.

I find these 'reaction' videos become a little tedious after a while. I'm much more interested in Rick Beato's musical analysis of why a song is so good. He offers true insight for me.

First time time I saw him I found him a bit too annoying. Stumbled across him again after watching a Caravan live clip on YouTube Detailing Nine feet underground was wonderful, then VDGs A Plague of Lighthouse keepers maybe even better Will go looking for more music I know and like
Used to watch Rick Beato a lot but gave up. Talented for sure.

I really like watching reaction videos. I don't even mind it if they really have heard it before. Doug, I do watch a lot of, though nothing too recent. I was in the beginning, like really? A "classical composer" his age that has never heard Close To The Edge by Yes? I don't believe it. (That is a good reaction, video though)
However, his reaction to Diary Of A Madman by Ozzy Osbourne seems totally genuine. I love this video.

His reaction to ELP's Karn Evil 9 is the best.

I really enjoy Rick's channel too MartinT, comes across as very personable and the subjects he discusses are more often than not really interesting - very balanced and non judgemental too.
