I heard a few bits of gear by them perhaps 8 to 10 years ago but not heard them for years As Martin would say with the sabre chip it will all depend on implementation

I don't think Jerry would be interested in that DAC - it's not old enough.

Short of hearing it, there's no way of knowing whether it's worthwhile. Is there a price on it?

430 x 79 x 343 mm
Buy one.

430 x 79 x 343 mm Buy one. Fair enough, Jules, how can I deny its greatness with measurements like those. And I have, actually, just bought it. Long story short(ish) it was being sold on eBay for £350.00 and described as "New Open Box". The RRP is €799.00 (not that anyone sells anything for RRP these days) which is around £685.00 I offered the seller £300.00 as a bit of a joke, really, and expected him to laugh, or come back with, perhaps, £340.00 at best. He accepted £300.00, and I'm calling that a bit of a result. Mike will be especially pleased, I'm sure, to know that I'm swapping a silver DAC for a black one. www.vincent-tac.de/en/product-types/da-converter/dac-1mk.html

Well one has to assume it is going to be more upmarket than a DAC called Dave! Probably more of a Hugo one would assume.

Well done Paul!
The only other measurement you needed was the weight test - 5.5kg so a heavyweight performer ...

I'm now in full "experiment" mode. I've just ordered a HiFiBerry Digi2 Pro, to (hopefully, as long as they're as compatible as I think they are) give my Tinkerboard some S/PDIF outputs, so I can compare the sound with USB. And yes, I did buy a new case that will fit too. If, for any reason, it's not compatible I'll probably end up buying a Pi 4

Slinger are you certain the HiFiBerry is compatible with the Tinkerboard?

Slinger are you certain the HiFiBerry is compatible with the Tinkerboard? Not 100%, but I've still got a Pi 3 B knocking about somewhere, or it might be a good time to test out the 8 GB Pi 4 Model B.

Will you be comparing Asus and Pi4 on USB? I'd be interested to see how they fare.

For starters I'll just be testing the DAC with all three inputs, optical, coax, and USB, using the Pi 4, and if any or all sound decent I'm not going to fanny about swapping back to the ATB and a/b-ing the USB.
Having had a quick snoop around the net opinion is divided. One volumio-related post I found a guy with a Topping D90 who said that the Pi 4 ran it "immaculately," and in the same thread was another bloke with a D90 who preferred the ATB, so I'm expecting them to be pretty similar anyway.

I can only say the Tinkerboard left the Pi 3 for dead, but that doesn't help much.
