I often sample music posted by others in the two "What are you playing now" threads. Sometimes I find a gem, more often than not I shake my head or reach for the Stop button quickly. This causes me much amusement as the music obviously touches other listeners but I'm not hearing it.
I'm equally sure that others must do the same with music I've posted over the years.
Funny how music touches each of us differently.
Even so, I keep doing it to broaden my horizons, my tastes becoming ever more eclectic. However, nothing will ever persuade me to listen to Joanna Newsom or Rufus Wainwright.
What doesn't do it for you? Anything goes, this is just for fun.

Music is such a subjective experience and know my tastes are not for most people. As Chris knows I will never get the Grateful Dead Hot Tuna are another freak out band I just don't get For the service we have a client who wants to go to a Little Mix concert and have been asked a few times to take him. Somethings I will not do for money.

Most of my life I've struggled with other people's suggestions, aside from the very rare great find.
I always felt like my antennae, even if I don't consciously know it, knows exactly what it's searching for, across any genre. Though that may be faulty naive thinking.
The numbers show me that by far the things I've become utterly infuated with have all been things I've found on Spotify deep dives and by just grabbing random cds that catch my eye.
Though now, in a forum like this, with so many threads showcasing music, and coupled with Spotify discovery, I click on and at least sample as much as I can just on the off chance that I'll find a gem for my collection.

I know exactly what I like even if I couldn't easily describe it. As well as deep dives into Qobuz and Spotify, I find a great source of fab music I've not come across before is the soundtracks of quality TV dramas. Series like The Blacklist have consistently played music that's had me reaching for Shazam and TuneFind. They then get added to my tryout playlist and then to a permanent one if they make the grade.

Yes, I Shazam every time I'm at theater. Wow, Shazaming the intro tune to True Detective 1 was gold. I've tried The Expanse and gave up in 20 minutes, though I've heard reading the books then trying the show could work. Any good music in The Expanse?

The Expanse is superb - stick with it. It does help to read the James Corey books. I don't remember much incidental music except for specially written stuff. Banshee is also great for music.

Going back briefly to the OP, I often post albums that I don't enjoy on the playing now thread, especially if it's by a less than well known artist, as someone else might try it and like it.

I don't bother very often as I've moved on to something better. I'll try to remember that - but if I do, I'll say why I didn't like it.

I used to do that, but thought negative comments would put people off giving it a go.

I'll be gentle (there is zero chance I'll be playing Rufus)!

How about when cut with David Byrne?
On "Grown Backwards" they sing the duet, “Au Fond du Temple Saint,” from Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers, which I'm sure lovers of classic ballet would hate, but that I find hauntingly beautiful.

There's a certain brand of female singing that deems it necessary to wring 57 different notes out of one single syllable. That gets me ra(aaaa-eee-iiii-oooo-uuuu-doh-rey-me-faa-sooo-laaaa-teeee)aaaah)nting.

I love that duet, but if I hear Wainwright's whiny voice anywhere in it I'll be reaching for the tablet faster than you can blink.

I'd add Scat singing to that. In my opinion it ruins the song in at least 90 % of cases.
