Does anyone remember legendary mastering engineer George Marino?
What a talent this dude had, working on some of the very finest rock from the 60's up to his untimely death in 2012.
I mention this as I was blown away when I rediscovered the 40 yr old sonics from Dio's 'Holy Diver' the other day and it turned out to be Marino's work. I know him best from 1980's hard rock and metal - the sound he put out on GnR 'Appetite for Destruction' is one of my favourites from him. He worked across different genres too, and very successfully indeed.
What a staggering discography!

I'm more familiar with Bob Ludwig, Bob Clearmountain and Bernie Grundman as outstanding engineers, Marino has passed me by somewhat.
I was just playing a friend some Harry Belafonte from 1959 and Fairport Convention from 1971 yesterday and we were remarking at the extraordinary quality of the recordings from those times.
These guys were all heroic in their endeavours to lay everything possible down into the recording. Little did they know that many decades later, we would finally have the equipment at home to do those recordings justice.

Looking through his "selected" discography I didn't actually see anything that I own. I started in on his full discography before I realised it stretched to 75 pages. I spotted the Joe Bonamassa/Beth Hart album, the Joe Satriani "Wizards...", and a very obscure "Rockets" album prior to giving up.
