I am thinking of changing my main streaming options and modernising a bit. I have recently been using the MacBook with USB to the DAC in the Audiolab 8300CDQ, which works very well. But I do not really like tying up the MacBook as I use it quite a lot. The other option I currently have is an RPI with HifiBerry Digi, this works well with Volumio, but things have moved on and I think I can improve on this.
My thoughts were initially the ALLO USBRIDGE SIGNATURE PLAYER which is reportedly very good, with a clean PSU, and in the future if I felt the need I could think about Ethernet REGEN before it, on the USB side it is supposed very noise free so re-clocking between it and the DAC at a later date may be overkill.
I was interested to know if any members had or is using one of these and there thoughts on SQ overall, especially with Hi-Res streaming.
Thanks in advance.
Adrian

Could you stretch to a new or used Sonore microRendu? The Rendu series (I have an ultraRendu) have outstanding sound quality and great streaming support.

I had the signature when it first came out you will need to factor in something like the shanti. I had a Transport version of one but issues with DAC matching so did not last long

I used to have the Allo Digione which was excellent - you can now get the Signature for £180 which is what I paid for the Digione. Seems very good vfm and you could use it with a Powerbank that has the required 3A.

Hi Martin, that looks very interesting the new Sonore microRendu 1.5 retails for $529 with a linear PSU, which is only $32 more that the Allo with Shanti PSU. In the UK it is £439 with and iFi PSU from the Audiostore which is the only supply I can find in the UK. If I purchased direct from USA, I think I could add 20% tax and import fees so that would make it more that from the UK. I will have to think about all this carefully, the reviews I have read on the microRendu are all extremely good in relation to SQ, I quite like it is a small box because I could tuck it out of site behind another on the rack.

Ask more questions if you like. My ultraRendu gives me startlingly good sound quality.

I had an Asus Tinker Board running Volumio, now it's the Sonore ultraRendu running SonicOrbiter.
Since the Asus, I've had an EtherREGEN Ethernet reclocker feeding the streamer and a Mutec USB to AES reclocker on the output, feeding the DAC.
I replaced the Asus with the ultraRendu, so the comparison was like for like. The Asus was good for a general purpose computer but there was no comparison, the ultraRendu left it behind for every parameter from noise floor to dynamics to bass potency to air and space.
I also like it running in DLNA mode with BubbleUPnP control app on my Android controller. Nice interface, highly transparent.
It has a very good Spotify Connect mode, too.

Thanks Alan that is very helpful. Did you find much improvement using the " EtherREGEN Ethernet reclocker feeding the streamer and a Mutec USB to AES reclocker on the output", was one more important than the other for example?

It's still Martin!
Yes, both are very important to SQ, but the Mutec especially so.

I bought one of those back in November 2019. I eventually came to the realisation that it made my Tinker Board based setup sound worse than the power bank I was hoping to replace. The fan was noisy too.

The Ifi power supply is not good I got rid of mine quickly At some point I probably be selling my Temple supercharger which is a decent power supply John at Temple can convert to a voltage that suits at a reasonable price

These are better. Adjust for the Sonore to 8V DC for best sound quality. You can ask to have it preset, or adjust it yourself if you have a DVM. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362781745226

I don’t know why but I’m always a bit nervous of buying stuff from China, irrational really as probably 80% of all electronics come there now. Mainly concerned from a safety point of view. If you have is adjustment done by a pot? Thanks Adrian

OK based on your and others advise I have just ordered
Sonore microRendu v1.5 (v2.8 SW) from Audiostore
and a 50VA HIFI Ultra-low Noise Linear Power Supply DC5V 9V 12V 15V 18V 24V LPS PSU from the link you sent and asked it be set to 8VDC
so it should be up and running in a few weeks, exciting, I will be very interested to hear how good the SQ is.
