Any advice appreciated based on practical experience.
Apart from: "Don't do it!".
Have decided it just takes up too much space and looks shit, plus I simply don't use it, really.
I know it's like selling off a part of your soul and I agree. But all things considered, gotta go.
Well?

I gave all my LPs and spare CDs to Oxfam specialist music (and book) charity shops.
They seemed genuinely grateful, so I guess they thought they could get a decent amount for them.

My records are gone. I still have my CDs but haven't played them in almost two years.

Depending on what you have in your collection, I am always interested in buying some to add to the collection. Plus, hearing what people have in their collection is interesting I find...

If you can get money for it, fine. Otherwise, give it to a charity, as Jerry suggests.

EIL.com buy collections. I've only ever bought from them though.

Well so far I am unimpressed.
I reckon some of my collection is of almost infinite worth. Call that £250 plus for the best items.
Maybe I should just hold.
If I am honest about it and I ask myself what I would pay for the best items within it I think the honest answer is quite a lot.
Yet I find I want to sell it.
I am not happy about how I feel about it.
Bollocks though.
My mind's imagination says get rid of it for something more contemporarily relevant.
Whatever.
I am accepting payments in excess of £2500.

Before I have specified what is for sale that is a bit rich, though;)

It honestly sounds like you might want to hold on to it 👍 you have a big connection with it and probably would be sad to let it go. Record collections look pretty great as decor too, so I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss it as looking rubbish. Hold on to it and try to play some of the stuff you've not listened to in a while. You might find it draws you back in.

I still haven't played a single record since moving over to streaming but still have the collection intact.
I've only looked into the value of a few things and was rather surprised to see a couple of albums that I thought were maybe 20-30 quids worth max, selling at 400-600 each. It seems vinyl is still an appreciating asset - I'm not in the position where I have to sell them so makes sense to hold on for now I think.

Are you in the north or south? If north then how about talking to TonyL of PFM?

It probably makes sense to just go through the lot and keep the stuff worth keeping and ditching the rest.
I'll probably go to Plastic Wax in Bristol with the stuff I want to get rid of.
