Millions of 5V USB type C chargers on eBay for peanuts, or just buy a USB A to C cable and use one of the plug chargers that anyone with a phone has.
You can always upgrade to a linear PSU if you like what it does.

Thanks That will get me going
The main criteria is to have the laptop send a signal to the system at fair sound quality or better. if it works well upgrades will happen

Yes, but put Spotify on the phone and try that, too. You may be surprised (we do this in the kitchen to our Pioneer all-in-one).

Allmusic, Amazon and Youtube are the ones I want. Spot too often doesn't have what I want

I have a spare 8 inch Samsung tablet that you could borrow if you want for a while as pretty sure this will be a lot better on sound quality

Best / better sound will come from BT5 Mike.
Your old iPad won't have this but I think John's does. But use the iPad if you just want to get up and running.

With me and tech I'll prove the concept (that I can make it work) then work on up from there

Definitely - once you have the basics you can tweak as and when.

BT 4 is pretty awful My advice do not be put off by sound quality when you hook it up. It can be pushed a lot further without much expense.

First - Get little box from Jules Second - look around for cables I might have or buy Third - get it working. I'm hoping for quick and easy Fourth - Use and become familiar Fifth - Judge sound quality Sixth - Back here

Little box arrived today. My USB cables are not C type, although they are almost identical. Question : What do I want to buy in the way of USB C cable ? USB 2 or USB 3 ? Will the lead magically make it 5v ? Will this do USB C Cable 3M, USB A to USB C

USB uses 5V as a standard.
USB C and microUSB may look 'similar' but do not try to intermix them!
Is this for power? In which case, you might want to buy a charging cable with thicker wires. Standard A to C (or whatever your charger has).

Thanks
Yes, power.
Initially plugging into a USB wall plug to test if all works and how I get on with it so a cheap one is fine to start
