Going on from nick193 post makes me remember I want to connect my laptop to the system Might already have what I need with the Raspberry Pi but I want to send direct from laptop so not via Volumio Can I do that already - *easily* with the Pi ? If not then I assume Bluetooth and one of those boxes MartinT highlighted or similar Various digital inputs on the TAD D-1000, USB, Coax, XLR, optical Might even be useful into one of the SMSL Q5s....

Bluetooth adapter sending digital into the TAD would be the easiest and probably best for SQ.
Long USB cable, not so convenient or as good quality.

SBC Bluetooth is awful and likely you would be using this to stream You can get a USB Bluetooth 5 dongle that might be better Do you know what system of Bluetooth the TAD is using

A good Bluetooth receiver will make a good impact but likely to run off Android rather than Windows to get the better codes for audio

Mike, I have a Bluetooth adapter that supports Bluetooth 5.0 24Bit/96K Aptx Aptx-HD LDAC.
I've only used it once so as new. Cheap.
Let me know.

Thanks chaps Don't want a long USB cable across the room for sure. This is probably a step rather than final answer so cheap is good although the best sound quality must play a part even for sampling If the Pi can easily be made to accept Bluetooth that would be good. Doubt the TAD accepts Bluetooth so I will need a receiver to then cable into the TAD Most Bluetooth receivers, maybe all have a jack plug which the TAD does not have, like this 3.5mm to USB Bluetooth Receiver Wireless AUX Audio Stereo Music Adapter Receiver

Just buy a 3.5mm to twin phono cable.

julesd68 please send me a link MartinT - just add a different cable and it will work into 2 coax sockets ? Another thought occurs I'll need to power this too won't I ?

Two phono sockets, to be precise.
The Bluetooth thingy should come with a PSU. Probably a horrible SMPS.

You could use a power bank but it needs to have something else running off it as the transmitter uses so little juice.

I use a temple audio supercharger and you could use Stan's Supercap 5v power supply for even a cheaper option

Thanks John Will get something sorted and see how it sounds. I'm used, philosophical even that once I make one step I then see the next one and possibly what I should have done in the first place !

Just get the Bluetooth receiver and trial it, Mike. That'll tell you enough about usability and sound to start with.

Jules PMd me with his little magic box I need to pair my laptop with it, which I think I might be able to manage plus get a 5V PSU with a USB 3 plug. Where's a cheap place to start with one of them, would a mains plug with USB outlet we use for charging phones work ?

Unfortunately it is highly unlikely it will sound good via the laptop Mike if your phone has Android 9 or above this would be my preferred method

Thanks John I want the setup I have had for years in my office. PC plugged into Chord Amp direct, next to each other. Allmusic, Amazon, Youtube and others playing.
If the laptop does a fair job I will stick with it for a time at least as this is mostly for sampling Better sound can follow on

Its coaxial to the TAD However you need a USB C type connector to power the unit

Thanks John I must have a coax cable around Might have a USB C cable too. Thought the curved plug was the same size as a normal USB What do I plug the USB into ? (won't be the laptop) Could it be on of the mains plugs that has a USB output ? Have one of those too
