I blame the tinkering of my friend for this as always pushing the boundaries with regards to Speakers I have been on a similar journey ever since I got my first open baffles. I been settled with the Faitals for nearly a year with no real desire to change until Vic latest detour Vic sent me a pair of Kefs HTS-3001 mk3 as he really liked what they were doing flic.kr/p/2kEFZonIt took a while to dial in the bass They have a bit more oomph than the Faitals more depth and detail and a lot more bass so now cut off at 110 with a Bessell slope at 120 Here is a graph showing the difference between the Kefs and Faitals flic.kr/p/2kEFqDPVic had to do a few modifications such as getting rid of the bass port and adding damping material They like to go loud i must of been playing 90db plus without any need to turn them down

So they're a fully enclosed ported speaker? Full range?
It seems to go against your ethos of open baffles.

To be honest whilst I like open baffles I am a lot more pragmatic when it comes to sounds and they do everything I like in Open baffles and more They are no longer ported I don't need the extra bass as have the Neos to provide bass duties Basically a small innert funny shaped box with built-in in crossover ohh the shame of it all, but look how smooth they read on the graph no nasty peaks and listening to them is so much fun Vic doubling up on them Easily the best I heard in my system and the Faitals were not shabby

Are you thinking of taking the drivers out of their enclosures or leaving them as-is?

So with the Faitals after 90db can get hard to listen to a definite sweet spot in hi far you can push the volume with the Kefs they like to party

Look at the LS50, utterly superb for their small size.

Hi Damien I seen some of your work on Lenco Heaven Really nice work It seems we both been on a Vic inspired journey I had the PRV in my system for a year nice drivers especially in mid just that untamed treble I heard the Gallos at Vic. I am to much of rocker at heart o I knew not for me but can see why people like them Do keep us informed how you get on with the Kefs It always good to connect with someone on a similar journey often I feel like the odd one out here with such radical speakers

Yes John, It's great to touch base with you. Like yourself, l been on board with Vic changes since the PRV days. Those PRV'S had some great qualities, insane volumes!
Apart, from the upcoming Kefs, l trying out some different subs, Kicker CompC 15", so plenty to carry on with.
Trust Vic, lol doubling up on the Kefs, l bet it's not far behind the PRV in volumes.

Vic says he is getting 105db without issues scary to think Adding extra Kef ups volume by 3db What bass drivers are you using the UM18 is special but need a lot of watts to drive

I have believed for a good few years build a system around the best speakers you can get to work in your room This confirms my thoughts

Not having to go so high with the bass I am now hearing low bass organ notes which just was not there before I think I am not pushing the neos so hard so bass has improved A really fun listening session tonight This is the best set up I heard for the music I enjoy

Sounds promising John, l am currently running 4 x Pure audio project 15", which really easy to drive. l was going to replace with some UM18-22,however the shipping and import costs are silly money. As good as the PAP are they start to roll off at 50hz This lead to myself and Vic looking into some Car Subs, amazingly the Kicker CompC 15" are cheap to try,and have good specs, and at £99 per unit, could be a bargain, certainly worth a punt, hopefully they will go lower HZ than the PAPs. Sadly, working six days a week, projects take a little longer. How long before Vic has 4 on each side, lol! My lord, it would really be PA concert levels

Sounds like you are heading in the right direction Vic has tried so many different bass drivers before he got to the UM18 by Dayton I hope the new bass drivers work well for you please keep me posted i am sure they will work well as Vic good at understanding the specs needed You probably need a dedicated power amplifier How are you controlling the bass crossover Looking at those specs you will need something like the Behringer NX dsp controlling bass on this is very intuitive and I like you can adjust on the fly
