When in the mood RB can deliver some really heart felt playing with a tone all of his own, on occasions he could have been a serial bell end! All the good ones can be rather odd lol
Anther overlooked serious player was Randy Rhodes, I was fortunate to him with Ozzy rather good player somewhat lol

I like the way Ritchie every now and then moves out the blues scale which gives you that unique Ritchie sound The first time I heard the second solo to Mr Crowley I felt that tingly chill run along my back I just get frustrated that the Director does not stay with Randy playing the second solo

I think anyone who has an appreciation of modern rock guitar will know Randy Rhodes's place in history ...

I was chatting with Jules and we were talking about how much Eddie Van Halen changed the guitar The first time I heard eruption I knew that guitar-based music would be changed Here is Running with the Devil

Guthrie Govan with Billy Sheehan (and Pete Riley) covering Jeff Beck's "Because We've Ended As Lovers." And this is Guthrie just bloody showing off.

She's scary good, John. I often wonder though, whether some of these prodigies who learn other people's music by rote will ever develop a style of their own, or even be playing as adults.

I also wonder about that You kind of hope she is given enough space to develop her own voice

I also wonder about that You kind of hope she is given enough space to develop her own voice Sometimes it seems to me almost as if the child is playing the instrument, but the parent is playing the child with no more regard for the child than the child has for his or her instrument.

Guthrie was (still is, probably) a mate of one of our mods on the computer graphics forum I used to Admin, so I got to hear him long before he became semi-famous.

Nice melodic style with plenty of shedding Check out his blistering scales and arpeggios in this vid, very baroque influenced. Lots of 'shedding' too ...

One to upset annoy entrance the Vivaldi fans I missed this vid when you posted it, Paul. It's very funny. They are so serious and studious, with a feint whiff of the Baroque about them. Looks like it was recorded for the Open University in 1972.
