Look at religion and UFOs. LOL - my robust response on both subjects is here in this forum. I'm not into believing, but I trust in empirical evidence (my own, that is).

Back to the Magic Tubes. Late yesterday, I attached my spare two to the analogue interconnects from my DAC to the buffer. I wasn't sure that I liked the effect - not harsh, but brighter. Today I decided they were too bright so I took them away again. The balance is now as before, and better since my system doesn't need any brightness added.
Things I've learned: the effects are immediately reversible. On my system, they work really well on digital cables but not so on analogue. This doesn't surprise me but is at odds with Bob Prangnell's findings. They also don't have much effect on power cables - the Black Discus are much better used there.

Again, if you are hearing a noticeable difference and not just 'a feeling'. Then it can be measured!
Almost like the line from Predator; "If it bleeds, we can kill it"

Would magic fuses have worked for you back then? I have to say, I don't think so. What's happened, and it's hardly unique to audio, is that the once unacceptable, is now accepted. Are shakey stones - which some firmly believe in - any more valid than PB's bottles of treated water? I don't think so. Have to say, never saw Jimmy H as being someone wanting to maintain a reputation. I only saw him as someone who did his own thing and didn't care what others might think. He was a keen advocate of single strand solid core wire. He said it even made a difference on his LP12. Others were obviously sceptical - until they tried it for themselves. RFI. Any amount believe it has no effect on audio. At the end of the day, you believe what you want to believe. Rationally, it will be based on some personal experience. Although that's not always the case. Look at religion and UFOs. Just remembered, reef knots worked for me. And I firmly believed in solid core cables. Still do. An after market fuse might have delivered an improvement - I can't know. A magic fuse ? No idea A dedicated circuit did improve sound as did something that is not recommended. That was perhaps a grey area, now it is illegal Unacceptable ? Shakey stories ? I always ask the supplier to "prove it" Grahams did with a Sound Org table for the LP12 Mana did with a rack Aesthetically I didn't want either Ebay provided me with a mains cable at a nice price and if I hadn't heard an improvement it would have gone back on Ebay My belief is based on hearing a difference. I liked what Jimmy Hughes said. Tried PB's stuff - didn't work for me Anyone is entitled to a belief in RFI or lack of it. Hearing is the test Religion and UFOs ? Prove it and I'll believe it and I mean PROVE it No one, from what I've read, can give a creditable explanation as to how an after market fuse works, as such, saying it does so by magic is as creditable as quantum tunneling or anything else. In the 70s I rewired a distribution block with solid core cable and hard wired it to the back of a wall socket, and heard a clear improvement. Unacceptable? Aye. That which is/was hard to accept. That "other" "hard to credit" factors can influence sound quality, as was generally regarded, once. You don't have to go that hairshirt. You can start with temperature and humidity. And then jump to cable directionality. Shakey stones. Must have heard of them. Along with crystals and tiny blocks of wood you attach here there and everywhere. The list of stuff is endless these days. Honest to God I am waiting for someone to bring out a rang of audiophile clothing to combat RFI, as I've said before. It'll happen. There's no escaping RFI. The question is does it impact on audio? As I've said, some will say it doesn't. Religion. Its a belief system. You believe, have faith - or you don't. Some people are "Doubting Thomas's"; they want proof. JC said that he would rise again on the third day after his death. He appeared to some of his disciples, but not Thomas. When they told him about the visitation, he didn't believe them, saying he would only believe when he could physically put his fingers in the wounds of JC and know for himself. On the next visitation JC presented himself to Thomas and offered him the nail wounds in his hands and that in his side from a spear. Well, Thomas had his proof then and was repentant for not believing in the first place. Of course, that all depends on whether you believe the bible to be what it's supposed to be. UFOs Never seen one. Believe they exist. Believe they're real simply because of the testimony of other, more than creditable expert witnesses. There's ton's of "evidence" - if you're willing to accept it. The problem is, people would rather simply dismiss it. It's too much of a stretch for their imagination. Simple question: why would anyone with some level of public reputation put themselves forward with claims when they will be faced with ridicule. What does anyone in that position have to gain? Look on YouTube. There's loads of accounts for anyone with a genuine open mind. Go an investigate Timothy Good. He's written a few entertaining books. Go and investigate accounts from astronauts. Maybe they lack credibility for you. At the end of the day, you believe, or you don't. If you don't, it doesn't matter what anyone has to say, it won't bring about a change of mind. I'm just playing devil's advocate. I saw the thread and then wondered how PB would be regarded if he was to appear on the scene unknown. Would he be regarded in the same way as he generally is. Or, with the passing of time, would his "treatments" be more acceptable to a more open-minded (gullible?) audience?

I'm sure he would create a big following on YouTube if it was all new today.

would his "treatments" be more acceptable to a more open-minded (gullible?) audience? I'm sure, with the prevalence of social media, he would be for both reasons.

In the end we have to trust our ears or belief system. As I said in the past I seem to suffer from mains noise more than most as have a factory close by so playing with different things like fuses, grounding even RFI chokes have made a repeatable difference that even my more sceptical friends can hear. If someone wants to deny that experience I am okay with that as they have a different system and different circumstances.

So, back to the Magic Tubes (not wanting this thread to get completely derailed), I seem to have settled, through quite a lot of experimentation, on 11 out of my 14 deployed on digital and DC power cables. I have three spare ones left.
The overall sound has a lower noise floor with smoother, more detailed treble energy and very tight and deep bass. Dynamics are very good indeed. The music ebbs and flows and the midrange, especially with voice, is liquid and soars beautifully.
The system has a fine balance between high levels of detail and not getting into harshness. This has been my goal ever since dedicating my system to streaming and is a tough one to get right. I knew selecting the ES9038 DAC chipset was going to present challenges and it does. However, I wanted to hear as much detail as is possible to extract from the signal and here the Sabre DACs are king. The Magic Tubes are a fine tweak but are very impressive in taking the system towards my preferred sound. Indeed, playing some of my shit-list of poor recordings is a revelation with almost all of them now listenable.
Money very well spent.

I've just attached my last Magic Tube to the Black Magic USB cable. Well, why not? Can't have too much Mad Scientist in my system!

I finally succumbed to getting 5 tubes after having 2 free mini doughnuts on my mains cable (on my speaker cables a backward step). They add a bit more depth in my system and further allow sound to suddenly appear from the depths of space and time ⏳😉

Where did you place yours, John? I ended up with mine on all my DC cables but took them off my digital signal cables.

Yes sure are I rate this higher than the Black Ravioli big pads in my system for they are doing and that is good praise

I'm on the case with these.
A tad OT but I have two black disucces Bob must have thrown in as freebies that I forgot I had; I chucked them into my DAC and was surprised by the difference, imagine going from a picture with the colour tilted towards monochrome and righting the balance a notch or two. Not to say they colour the sound, rather allow more energy through.
Very nice uptick.
