I adore Floor, and Symphonic Metal is one of my favourite genres; I've got a ton of it.
These two lasses, Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation and the Gathering's Anneke van Giersbergen, can sing a bit too.

I've only discovered Nightwish in the last year, I think they are my favourite band now. I'm not usually much of a fan of cross genre music, but symphonic metal ticks my boxes!
Their most recent album Human|Nature is an interesting departure for them. Must admit I've grown to love it, especially the official video release, quite stunning imagery to go with the music. Floor has done some amazing stripped down acoustic versions of some of the tracks, as well.

If you haven't heard them already, Jerry, Epica are worth having a listen to, as are Delain, Within Temptation, and maybe Evanescence too.

Yup, I've heard all of those groups , Paul. Unfortunately, I heard Nightwish first, and the others rather pale in comparison imo! Delain probably come in a decent not too distant 2nd. Not all Nightwish tracks take my fancy, but many just blow me away. Not a fan of Tarja, though. It's Floor Jansen for me. And Marco, tragic that he's left Nightwish.

Love this from the new 3rd Secret album.
Given the musicians involved you would expect it to sound great but the vocals are really cool too ...

Besides the beautiful melody what I find interesting here is that the melody starts as a series of key strokes on the higher octaves of a piano and morphs into what sounds like a symphony along with rumbling low notes on the same piano.
On YouTube can be found a slowed down + reverb added version of this track.

Joni Mitchell - a female vocal I like backed by, get you head around this, Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, Lyle Mays, Michael Brecker, Don Alias Oh yes, I had Shadows and Light on Laserdisc for many years and loved this performance. Pastorius laying down the bass line and Metheny doing some of his best guitar work, all supporting Mitchell's vocals and some nice video edits into archive footage to spice up the presentation.

This is really rather good. Some great playing in amongst the humour in this one... Delibes, anyone? And just to prove their versatility, a bit of Ennio Morricone They have loads of videos on YouTube, and they really are excellent. They even perform a Prodigy medley. The whole concert is here: for anyone who fancies 1h 37m of somethuing a bit different.
