Why is Christmas music almost all terrible? The pseudo-stepdaughter has got it banging out loud in the kitchen and I found myself wincing already. The older numbers are best, Greg Lake is the best, and if THAT song comes on, watch me dive for the skip button.

Just think, it could get worse. Much worse.
You could be subjected to Mrs Brown's Boys followed by Vicar of Dibley tonight.

I'd rather stick needles in my eyes.

I've managed to avoid it pretty well, so far. I don't mean just today - not a single note of any type of Christmas music has breached the portals of my lugholes today - not one note. Better than that though, I can only think of two occasions I've heard any since last Christmas and they were just brief snippets. I haven't seen a seasonally themed TV advert or programme either, as I'm keeping away from the box in general and terrestrial TV in particular. Best Christmas ever, from that point of view!

I'm keeping away from the box in general and terrestrial TV in particular. I can't get my family to stop asking "what's on TV?" Terrestrial TV is so irrelevant. I keep saying "thousands of things on demand" but they can't get their heads around it. Then I try "well, what do you want to watch" to which they reply "but we don't know what's on", at which point I give up. Anything that's "on" is entertainment for the mindless, but let's not go there for fear that you think me a snob. Which I am

LOL.
There's some Christmas music I enjoy (mainly 50's) and some TV too - just like anything else you need to look for the occasional gem.
Last night I watched a look back at 30 years of 'Have I got news for you' - some priceless moments there ...

I find myself moving away from Freeview to on demand and Prime. When the Tivo or I mess up it's on demand so pick it up there

I'm glad you added the " almost," or I may have had to "doorstep" you and beat you about the head with my B.B. King and Aaron Neville Christmas albums, to name but two. Brian Setzer, Jethro Tull, and the Trans Siberian Orchestra may also have joined the fray. Then there's Lynyrd Skynyrd, and The Beatles, and Steve Lukather. Phil Spector, The Beach Boys, The Moody Blues, Richie Blackmore, REO Speedwagon, Tracey Thorn, The Ventures, The Chieftains, Emmylou Harris, Nick Lowe, Chris Isaak... I love Christmas albums.

There's Christmas by Low, and also Greg Lake. I can't think of much else I'd listen to, but yes, I said 'almost' deliberately!

I'm currently hooked on this one, and I don't really know why as it's not my "style" at all. It's catchy as Hell though.

You just can't beat Jingle Bells --- played in a minor key.

How about an avant-garde version of Silent Night, Jerry?
