OK ! So my conspiracy theory is just that !
In my experience far eastern loudspeakers are occasionally voiced differently, but seem to measure the same ? However the real Japanese use big Tannoy's and JBL's that are bigger than we can get here !

Its a few days now since the Teufels were modified. The mid ranges from the JBLs hadn't been used for about five years. They seem to have loosened up a bit and the clarity is now really good. I have been tempted into the music room at least as often as with the Quads I can't see them replacing the 57s in my affections but they get much closer than expected. If the worst did happen, I reckon I could now live with these permanently. I was using the MF A100 but have swapped to the Stereo20 and good though the MF is, there is just that extra bit of believability with the bottles. I much prefer the look no as well. The Titanium mid range is actually quite a bit brighter than it looks in the pic and cheapens the look I think.

Further improvement!! When it was all sounding horrible, I L padded the tweeter to try and tame the harshness. Now the mid range has been sorted, I felt the high treble was a bit too depressed as some of the zing and rasp was missing from saxophone and drums. Removed the pad and its much better. I can sense the movements of lips against the sax and the subtle tappings and scrapings the drumkit on Take 5 now. Suddenly, they seem worth €3000
