I don't think there can be a straight answer to this, as it is probably entirely dependent on so many variables. For my system(s), where I only use digital cables between streamers and DACs, the coax options have always sounded better than the optical ones I have tried. But I haven't tried them all!

Agreed with the above, but you did mean 'unbalanced' co-ax?
Balanced digital connection would be AES/EBU with XLR connectors.

If you do mean a 75Ω co-ax lead then I'd have to agree with ChrisB. It the better-sounding solution as far as I'm concerned, and it's the solution I use between my CDP and DAC. Having said that I've not tried an optical lead of the same quality as the co-ax lead I'm using. So, there you go. I'm no use to you whatsoever.

Thank you I shall look out for an ixos If you do an ebay search, sometimes sellers don't use 105 in the title, so searching on 'Ixos digital' can often turn some up, make sure you get the thick red Ixos digital cable, as their others aren't as good. Look at closeup photo for Ixos 105 printed in black on the cable.
