I have a Belkin thing Jerry. I needed it because some of our walls are two foot thick and made of solid stone and coverage at the back of the house was pretty bad. It's like this one...
...but may not be that exact model. It works very well and I actually forgot it was there until I moved my office into the room where it's plugged in. It continued to work just fine after a change to a new router, with the switchover being so unremarkable, I don't recall doing anything. I couldn't tell you if it affects the hifi system though.

We got one of these. It was in a top 5 WiFi boosters for 2020. hyperstech.com/intl/order.php?prod=wifiultraboost&net=9013&cid=4764991Wasn't as expensive as some others. Have it in an outbuilding about 15m from the nearest house router and it then covers our entire 1/2 acre back garden no problem. Shows up as routername_ext. Once selected, our phones auto roam. Even get 3/4 signal strength in the Orangery (glorified Victorian greenhouse 🙂) some 30m away.

Thanks folks, very helpful responses. I'll see how I get on with Jules' gizmo - we've got quite a large garden and atm I soon get out of wifi range of the home hub. I just want my phone in my pocket and a pair of, ideally, wireless headphones on my bonce and be able to listen to Qobuz wherever I wander. I may well need multiple boosters around our dwelling place, but I'll see how far Jules' gadget goes.

Have you pressed the WPS button?
It all seems to hinge on that.
OMG, what have you let me in for, Jules? Doom and desolation.

Should be as simple as pressing the WPS button on router, press the button on the extender and wait for them to pair. The green lights on the extender show strength of signal.

Hehe, WPS worked fine for the extender I got on the main house sky router. Did not work on my slave router (a Talktalk Huawei connected to the main one via ethernet cable) - the router we actually needed to extend! I followed the instructions and paired them manually using Laptop. Worked fine.
So I have sympathy.
