I wondered if anyone here has, or hands any hands-on experience, with the Nativ Vita streamer/"music system"? www.nativsound.com/en/I really like the idea of a solution that doesn't require me to pickup my tablet/laptop etc (but still allows for that control), but since the demise of the Squeezebox range, such things have been hard to come by. (I know, raspberrypi/display etc - I have that setup, I'm just exploring other solutions, or "solution" anyway). Cheers, Chris

I swear I've seen something similar as a prototype. May even be the same thing with a new name. Looks like it could capture the lifestyle market rather well.

I have to say, it looks rather pretty; a bit "lifestyle-y," but pretty. At around £2.2k for what would be my optimum setup, it needs to sound as good as it looks though.

I'd be looking at it mainly as a streamer, so I wouldn't spec internal storage - like all such vendors, their markup on the internal storage seems rather high, to me.
I must admit, I'm really wary even at the base config price: how long will they be around, how long will they keep fixing/updating the software, etc.

Yes you could end up with a very expensive door stop there!

Yes you could end up with a very expensive door stop there! Yeh, I think I just reasoned myself out of the Nativ! My Pi/touchscreen/runeaudio setup may have some rough edges, but at least I know, if the worst comes to the worst, I can grab the source and (eventually) hack on it myself! Even if it does look a little out of context in a mid/high end hifi setup.

My setup looks pants, but it performs outstandingly well.
I don't care much about the aesthetics if the SQ is that good.

Nah, I don't mind looking at it. I often listen with my eyes closed, anyway.

I'm not *too* bothered about the aesthetics, but it's a (small) factor. I'm more bothered about the slight oddities in the Rune Audio UI - but, so far, it's the open source solution I've found that works the closest to how I want it to.

I prefer all my kit and racks in black to be as unobtrusive as possible. If the grey cables I have were also in black I'd have them too.

All black is okay up to a point.... but when you start to look like Moonwatcher pawing at the monolith at the start of 2001: A Space Odyssey, it might be time to break it up a little!
Years ago, I bought some stuff off a guy whose speakers were two stacked pairs of Quad ESL57s with black grills, the wood trims refinished with a black stain, and the stacking frames in black, too. I found those a bit overwhelming, especially in a relatively small room!

To me, it looks like a splinter group from the Volumio project. Very similar concept and UI. No build for the Asus Tinker Board, though.

I understood it to be the other way round: Volumio was a fork of RuneAudio - but, honestly, the early relationship between the two projects seems to have been pretty unpleasant, so it's all pretty hard to tell. I think RuneAudio has become quite Pi-centric, that seems to be where the (very few!) remaining developers have focused - probably because it's what they use. I did try Volumio when I built the streamer, and I can't remember why I rejected it - possibly there was an aspect of the UI that didn't quite gel for me (compared to RuneAudio), or possibly at the time, Volumio didn't support the digital audio output hardware I have. I would probably have tried it again, but accessing the card slot on the Pi in the case/display stand is such a faff.

Black ESL57s is a horrible idea!
Are there any other streamers you have been considering Chris?

I understood it to be the other way round: Volumio was a fork of RuneAudio Thanks for that. I guess Michelangelo must have led the splinter group, then. Would have been fun to witness it going pear-shaped. Differences of opinion on how to go forward, most likely.

I guess Michelangelo must have led the splinter group... I think you'll find it was Peter Green. No! Stop hitting me!

Black ESL57s is a horrible idea! Are there any other streamers you have been considering Chris? Not really, to be honest, As I said, I like the idea of the built-in touch screen. I used to use a Squeezebox Touch, and now I have my Pi based setup. I haven't seen much action in the "streamer with a display" segment.
