I ordered a Blu-ray copy for myself, Jules. My DVD copy appears to be on permanent loan to my sister-in-law (it was she who first recommended the books to us) in Ireland. My set arrived today Paul, might make a start on it tonight! Mine arrived too, but as Liverpool kick off in under an hour I won't be watching any of it tonight.

Guys just a quick harken back to the Alien comments. When Kane is first being questioned after waking from his face hugger coma. Does that music/sound design in the background sound familiar? Vangelis was the man. I don't think he was involved with Alien, though.

I used to listen to that Deckard's apartment background sound on a loop on youtube on long winter drives occasionally.
A year or so later I rewatched alien and some part of my brain recognized that sound during the scene when Kane woke up but I sort of ignored it. The next night I rewatched the film again and this time it was unmistakable. It's the same sound played on a loop in both films.

. . . . I rewatched the film again and this time it was unmistakable. It's the same sound played on a loop in both films. Yup, I can confirm this does seem to be correct. That has to be the most nerdy piece of film trivia I have ever come across - bravo that man Fits both scenes perfectly though, so Ridley saved a few quid by using it again.
Approx Times;
Alien DC (2003) @ 0:54:30 Blade Runner - The Final Cut (2007) @ 1:03:25

The only connections I can find (and damn you for getting me started on this ) is a guy named Jim Shields, who was credited as " sound editor" on Alien, and " sound designer (uncredited)" on Blade Runner, and Ben Burtt ... " additional sound design: recent cut (uncredited) / sound effects recordist: U.K. (uncredited)" on Alien and " additional sound design (uncredited)" on Blade Runner. Of the two, I'd say that Mr Shields seems the most likely candidate to have re-used the sound. Ii's quite possible it actually originated from a commercial foley, or sound effects library. Fun fact: For those of you old enough to remember a guy named Percy Edwards, who was once quite famous for imitating animal sounds, and birdsong, he too turned up on Alien as " alien vocalizator (uncredited)" For once, IMDB is your friend, along with Google Chrome's search function, not just Google for a change.

New BFI Sight & Sound best 50 films of 2023 list out.
I've seen 23 of them, 13 are new to me and a few are not out in the UK that I'm looking forward to seeing, Poor Things for example.

One of my all-time favourites, and now I definitely want to see a DC.

Interesting article on the mythical Event Horizon footage that freaked everyone out. I remember the flashing images and also, another scene that was hugely disturbing, the son who appears to her mother then beats her with a baseball bat. That seems to have been taken out of recent releases.

There's a trailer out for Alien:Romulus, but it tells us slightly less than the square root of bugger all. From what I've seen (see the second video), The Weyland-Yutani Corporation will, once again, be the evil overlords, and, supposedly, the film harks back to the horror roots of the original rather than pushing the sci-fi-action-movie element, despite featuring "a group of young people on a distant world".

When is this set? How can Ripley be 'back'?

Never say never, but I very much doubt I'll be bothering with it.

When is this set? How can Ripley be 'back'? "She" does not necessarily refer to Ripley, or Newt come to that. Watch the second video.

That trailer doesn't look legit to me - more like something some dude has knocked up in his bedroom.
