Finally have my own dedicated listening room for my small collection of 1970s hifi components. Currently using Trio KR4070 Receiver 1978 Sony STR 7055 Receiver 1971 JVC QL Y3F DD with 2m Red Cart Celestion Ditton 33 Wharfedale 2XP Glendales Also in use KEF IQ3 Denon DVD1900 as my SACD Player ATM everything is sitting on some sturdy office furniture but collecting an Optimum rack later this morning so will be updating this in a few days. Potentially looking to add a modern amp with onboard DAC to ustilise the sacd player or maybe get a free-standing one, tbh though not sure i would here a difference. Not bad as I calculate this lot has cist me less than £500

Brilliant - 2 receivers! I do like a good receiver, though I am down to just one nowadays. Don't forget to take some piccies of it all when you get it into the new rack, will you?

Celestion 33s were a pretty well-balanced speaker.

I do love a 70s receiver or two, nowt wrong with the sound at all and lovely looks! How about some close up pics! Celestion Dittons - Yum!! Lovely natural sound. Yup, very nice, I could live with that lot.

Im not sure about the celestions, they sound very lean, a bit too clinical. Maybe Im just used to the wharfedales and Kefs. Got some Aegis EVO 3 downstairs might try swapping them out and see what its like. 😁😁😁TTFN Stew

Hmm, Celestions shouldn't sound very lean. Something not quite right somewhere. Unless you like a particularly fat sound, of course!
I'd have expected the KEF IQ3 to be on the lean side [for my tastes], that Uni-Q driver can tend that way imo. I had KEF R500 in a second system for a year or so and never really liked them for that reason. Celestions would have been much better imo!

I picked up a pair of Ditton 33s the other day and I love them! Certainly wouldn't call them lean...

I find them deep man! Deep rich bass and generally very good. Might be to do with the partnering kit. Just hope they work out for you

Room update, new (2nd hand) hifi stand and a clear out of stuff I dont use has made a tidier less claustrophobic room, just having a bake off between speakers using the Sony Amp. Preliminary listening via CD is C= Clarity W= Warmth B= Bass S= Separation Scored High is Good Low is Bad Cel Ditton 33 C9 W6 B7 S8 = 30 Kefs C7 W9 B4 S7 = 27 Aegis 3s C7 W9 B6 S8 = 29 Listening to Songbird - Eva Cassidy Next up is Buffalo - The Phoenix Foundation TTFN

Yep - that looks pretty damn good.
The hard surfaces might give you some, erm, hardness in the sound. You may need to look at softening it a bit.

Well, that's a transformation! Very nice. Love that Sony receiver. Yes I do, its quite a rare one nowadays, was a great find and only cost me £150 shipped from Germany. Has terminals for 3 sets of speakers however will only play A+B or A+C which is strange. Have been considering a modern amp with an onboard DAC so i can output my CD via digital, but loathe to put the Sony into storage.

How about just a DAC then, keeping the Sony?

The Trio amp is actually my favourite, the face plate has been butchered unfortunately as someone tried to fit it inside a rack. Best FM tuner ive ever heard. Want to get a decent switching box so I can put speaker cables into and somehow switch between the two amps. The Sony has a pre-out but never really used it so maybe it could be utilised in this fashion. Will beed to give it some thought.

New addition to the family, bought a PRO-JECT 2xperience TT off another forum a few weeks back and have spent the last weekend comparing to the JVC. Tricky little bugger to set up and not having a removable headshell makes life more difficult. It came with a AT OC9/ML2 which I cant use as I need a MC SUT. Have loaded an AT95 which seems to suit it and gives it a much deeper bass than the JVC, (which has an Ortofon 2m RED fitted). How much that is down to the cartridges I have no idea.

No I haven't. Do you suggest removing the stock feet and using proper isolation feet?
