I want to give a shout out for the late and very great Gary Richrath from REO - an absolute master of the Les Paul. So incredibly gifted, such a shame his star burnt out early ... here he is in his prime playing his signature solo piece, Flying Turkey Trot.

Jimi Hendrix, because I heard Voodoo Chile when I was 11 and it was the first single I purchase with pocket money, I played it relentlessly and then pestered my Mum for at least 4 months to buy me a guitar, which she did after I sold my bike to put money to it. I then struggled to teach myself, I also used Bert Weedon's Play in A Day.

Now I've "voted" I feel safe posting a list. I've been answering a challenge on Farcebook, as I mentioned, and the idea is to list ten guitarists, one per day, and in no particular order, who have influenced you in some way, or left a mark on your life. Just to spice it up a little I decided to choose only British guitarists. This is my ten Peter Green Stan Webb Bernie Marsden Micky Moody Gordon Giltrap Adrian Legg Dave Gilmour Mark Knopfler Alvin Lee Albert Lee These are some that I left out. Hank Marvin Rory Gallagher Jimmy Page Pete Townshend Snowy White Mick Green Eric Clapton Jeff Beck Richie Blackmore Brian May John Martyn Richard Thompson John McLaughlin John Mayall Keith Richards Joanne Shaw Taylor Nigel Watson Steve Howe Dave Edmunds Andy Fairweather Low Deke Leonard Andy Scott Kim Simmons Eric Bell Zal Cleminson Guthrie Govan Billy Rankin Brian Robertson Ollie Halsall Andy Latimer Phil Manzanera Robert Fripp Mick Box Mick Ralphs Ted Turner Laurie Wisefield Andy Powell Paul Fox Pete Haycock Tony Iommi Mike Rutherford Laurence Juber Jim Cregan Jeff Lynne Mick Abrahams Steve Marriot Davy O'List Rod Price Dave Peverett Robin Trower Clem Clempson Chris Rea Tim Renwick Steve Rothery Wilko Johnson Chris Spedding Mick Taylor Top Topham Paul Kossoff John Verity There are more, but I stopped there. What about Bill Nelson ?

Any female great guitar players?
Ah yes, I now notice a couple in Paul's extensive list.
But very few, I guess? I wonder why.

I recall some YT vids of a young lady with jaw drop guitar skills that Martin mentioned.

It's a toss up for me but in the end it must be Fredrik Thordendal of Meshuggah.
His restraint impresses me instead he focuses on lead and rythm work that helps the song and builds atmosphere. His band is known for playing with time signatures in such a way that I don't actually understand, im not a musician.
But even for someone with limited understanding of the technical aspects the mixture of mechanical odd sounding rythms and incredible grooves and jazz elements just tickles me.
Heres an example of one of the utterly alien things I've heard from Fred, it's the use of a breath controller while simultaneously playing the notes on the guitar.
I couldn't find a good link of the solo isolated aside from this fan cover but this fan nails it.
