Selling my Audio Note Io2 cartridge This is recently back from a check-over at Audio Note. Their cartridge guru, who cleaned and adjusted it, sent it back saying it was sounding ‘wonderful’ (and I concur!). However, I’ve decided to align my cartridge ownership around my new Allnic HA5000 head amp, selling my SUTs and those cartridges that are too in low output for its single gain setting of 29db. The Io 2 is a significant step-up in performance (and price) from the Io 1, being based around a more powerful (and heavier) set of Alnico magnets. However it does need a very high step-up ratio of something between 1:66 and 1:100, and I have just sold the Miyajima ETR-Stereo I was using with it. Current list price of the Io2 is £4k (as opposed to £3k for the Io 1), I’m offering this one at £1600 including RMDS in the UK. As a stop-gap until a suitable SUT top-quality can be bought (for example from Audio Note themselves), I do have a high-ratio Ortofon SUT (1:83) available with the Io2 for £200. This works surprisingly well though I would say the Io2 deserves something a little more high end to really hear what it can do.
