Go into "Settings" on your phone and look for Google Services & Preferences. You may well see, as I did, COVID-19 exposure notifications. As best I can tell it's some sort of framework for use with government testing apps, should one ever appear, but I don't want something I know nothing about having access to my information, location, and chewing up my Bluetooth into the bargain. I didn't ask for it, I certainly didn't load it myself, so I can only conclude that Google stealh-loaded it "just in case" I fancied it. I've turned off my "Location" temporarily, and I keep Bluetooth turned off anyway. I've turned off exposure notifications, and if I can find out where it's hiding I'll delete the little bastard completely. Here's a link for Andriod phones.I have no way of checking if it's appearing in iPhones too. [EDIT] Apparently it's under Settings/Privacy/Health on iPhones I've just read.

Yes, I've been 'infected' with it too! Notifications are off already.
Whilst I might support the idea of using phones to help reduce CV providing no data is revealed, I'm not happy with Google just installing it without notifying me.
Doesn't look like you can delete it from services. It's not an app. You still need to download that, activate it, turn on location and Bluetooth etc. That's the one that was in the news yesterday. Not available yet.

I was listening to the radio this morning. The programme said that the Google app would be storing less data than the Government version they just stopped. However, I agree they should be informing us what it is saving.

Yes, it's on mine too. It is off by default and it's staying that way.
Looks like it's a framework for an app that you would install. Nope!

It’s on my Google Pixel 2XL but obviously not activated and it needs the appropriate app to work.

Yes, I'm not going to worry about it. No such app is going on my phone.

Bluetooth and location settings turn themselves on occasionally for network id purposes with or without your permission. I don't think they do on my phone and I've had it for sometime now. I've made sure everything is denied as much access as possible and I have very few apps and all notifications are turned off too. Google can track locations via cell mast ID, but claim they don't anymore or store any of this data.
So I don't think that's correct, unless you have an app that does it because you've neglected to turn something off - happy to be proven wrong though, so would be interested to know your source for this information?

Android Auto seems to start automatically, which I believe also connects Bluetooth. I'm guessing here, but it's also possible that if you've given an app permission to access Bluetooth then opening that app may start Bluetooth, and if the app starts automatically, then so would Bluetooth.
For Android Auto:
Take a look under Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > Driving mode > Turn on automatically > Advanced to see if the Turn on Bluetooth automatically option is active.

Yes it does Paul, Auto can turn on automatically and there are a few other apps than can auto turn on when they come in range of another Bluetooth device. Not on my phone though

Not on my phone though Quote you may be right, given Apple's Bluetooth protocol works differently, that's why the NHS tracking app wasn't successful. However, if you use something like a weather app, permission is inferred, it can use Bluetooth when other networks aren't available for location purposes only.

I never let anything on my tech infer granted permissions for anything, I also use stock Android for a reason, but I'm a bit of a nerd

I have my bluetooth and location settings turned on, but only very few apps have permission to use them. In Android 10, security is very tight and nothing can use them unless I say so.
Unlike for some, those services are vital to me (Bluetooth for the car, location for Waze, Google Maps etc.)
