Tough choices for an upcoming purchase require the very reluctant sale of my 100% original (non-retipped) Fidelity Research FR-7 cartridge. I purchased this from Japan some time ago. Almost unique in this condition. Absolutely wonderful performer – detailed while at the same time having a marvellous musical integrity. In my view, better than the later Ikeda 9 cantileverless cartridges (I had the 9C III) or the current Ikeda 9TT which I also owned (retail £2995). The very rare FR XF-1L step-up transformer (sorry for the typo in the listing) is very high-gain (36 db / 1:63) which is actually sufficient to drive an Audio Note Io - I have used it successfully with my AN Io2. Cartridge specs: Coil impedance: 3 ohm Compliance: 6 x 10-6 Output: 0.2mV Stylus Tip: 0.3 x 3 mil Line Contact SUT Specs: Gain: 36 db Step-up ratio: 1:63 Impedance :11 ohm (suitable for cartridges 1-4 ohm) Comes with the original boxes and stylus guard. These are famous for having essentially everlasting suspension components – in most cases, late 1980s or early 1990s cartridges would need completely rebuilt by now regardless of prior use or tip condition. Not so the FR7. Looking for £750 for the cartridge and £475 for the SUT plus £10 for RMSD, or you can have £75 off and free shipping if you buy them as a pair for £1150.
