The Front Lawn - Songs From The Front Lawn 1989 Being from New Zealand, here is another NZ album. A favourite, as a young parent. Headed by Don McGlashan from Blam Blam Blam, who went on to form The Muttonbirds. I flatted with the guitarist David Long's sister in 1990. The album has a definite NZ flavour on some tracks, but also some gems. Favourites are Andy and Claude Rains. open.qobuz.com/track/38077431

It's a "fun" little album, but not one I could envisage ever returning to. It's a bit too kitsch for me, the drums are annoying, and the whole thing is a bit too lo-fi for my tastes. Sorry. 3/5

I'm not greatly keen on the vocals. As Paul says above, it's fun for a listen and certainly takes me back to the post-university / early career late 1980s when I was gigging a lot. 2/5.

A 1 for me. I could not see myself listening to this again. If it was out of 10 I would have given it a 2

You had to have grown up with it perhaps?

You had to have grown up with it perhaps? I think we've probably all got albums like that Brett. We just can't understand why nobody else recognises their brilliance.

I feel that way about Lloyd Cole & the Commotions - Rattlesnakes. I still love those songs but new listeners are not impressed.

It's probably better known and Easy Pieces is an easier listen overall. However, Rattlesnakes has the most superb set of songs.

Quirky album some songs are a bit amateurish particularly the lyrics , it certainly gets better further on into the album , almost like a different group . 2/5

Good in parts
I'd listen to it again to see if it grows on me.
