I am going to share albums or experiences that were important in my appreciation of music. Do share yours as well.
In my early teens, I mostly listened to the radio while I enjoyed music; it was not a big part of life. But that was all about to change.
On the radio, I remember hearing Blue Oyster Cult Don't Fear The Reaper I did not like it as was far too polished. However, on Top of the Pops, they played the live version with their laser show. I was hooked and bought my first album Some Enchanted Evening by BOC. I have not listened to it for years as I grew out of it. However, it started a whole music journey I started reading up about the band and discovering music with a similar style, this leads me to albums like Strangers In The Night Made in Japan and On Your Feet or Knees, this leads me to go to concerts and to read music magazines—anything I could do to find new music and broaden my horizons.

The next part of the journey was seeing Diamond Head blow off April Wine at Hammersmith I remember reading Sounds and the band were being touted as one of the up and coming bands to see. So I decided to see them at Hammersmith Odeon After this I became a fan off the band I travelled to small clubs to see them play I liked the intimacy of the small clubs

Transport 9 years later I am going to 2 to 3 concerts a week and buying about the same amount of albums One of the main places I would go was Shades they open at about a 11 AM and play the latest hot record On one occasion I hear them playing When Dream and Day Unites by Dream Theatre I never heard so many time changes in one song so I got the album I guess this started my taste in more complex music This is the first track I heard

About the same time my friend lent me a lot of guitar based albums and through this I start listening to artists from a Jazz background like Bireli Lagrene and Kazumi Watanabe so my musical tastes start to widen

It is okay but not a great album. For me, it was a spark that started the journey.

The next album that kicked off a whole bunch of discovery would be Dr L Subramaniam Global Fusion I discovered this at HMV in Oxford Street, and it took me on a journey of exploring world music. I probably got my first Strunz and Farah album around the same time, and that got me into modern Flamenco
