Quite a few of us like SF TV drama and there are plenty of low intelligence, clichéd and CGI heavy shows out there. But what do you rate as the best character-driven SF?
Here are mine:
1. Travelers - you get to love the characters, each one different and important to the team. It's all the little touches and great ensemble acting that put this show at the top. 2. Counterpart - J K Simmons plays the two Howards so very well. The story premise of two Berlins is excellent, the show makes you concentrate on the jumps between characters. 3. The Leftovers - it's all about the character's responses to an unfathomable event. Their struggles with acceptance and moving on make it a rich and sometimes heart rending experience.

Would like to have an opinion on your 3 but will wait for them to come to Freeview or Amazon. Off the top of my head Sarah Connor - either of them perhaps even John Connor Firefly - either of the leads again Will think on for more

Sarah Connor - either of them perhaps even John Connor Firefly - either of the leads again Both featured a good balance of action and character development, although Firefly had little time to blossom, and I enjoyed them very much.

Would like to have an opinion on your 3 but will wait for them to come to Freeview or Amazon. Travelers is on Netflix. Counterpart is on Prime for an extra fee (Starz - there is a cheap offer if you binge watch it). I can't find where The Leftovers is available at the moment.

I understand, since I've just canned Sky and am now on NowTV (halving my costs). The uplift to trial Starz on Prime for a short while was pennies (may have changed now). Some of these shows will never come to Prime, although they may become available on iPlayer/ITV/Ch4/Ch5 etc.

Picard seems the most obvious recent choice. The Prisoner, perhaps, and Doctor Who also fit the bill.

Enjoyed Picard I tried two episodes of the Travelers but not for me a bit too melodramatic for my tastes. Loved Firefly when it was out
