I love this album so much it has stuck in the kitchen playlist for many months. His third and best in my opinion He started playing in public early at 12. Joined a band and in a few months they spotted a talent and he became the leader first album Smokin in 1995 is quite good By the time he released Wander this world he was getting on, 17 Grammy nominated Sampler from Allmusic until I sort out Spotty Allmusic

Playing it now. I spent a while watching clips on YouTube of the recent tribute concert that Mick Fleetwood staged for Peter Green. Jonny Lang was part of the housd band. I have a couple of his albums but they don't get too much time being played for some reason.

Listening to the linked track, it sounds like straightforward, old fashioned rock. Distinctive in its undistinctiveness.
I guess you just play it loud and rock along.

I like some of this album like Wander this world but it also has a few fillers on it. I think it is something I could listen to occasionally

Listen to the whole album Jerry It grows on repeat listens OK. The guy's a chameleon, he can take on a whole bunch of genres and do them well - Blues, Rock, Soul, Evangelical. Some nice guitar work, I'd like to hear more of that. I just wish the drummer had more imagination, the same damn beats almost every damn song or so it seems to me. Very tedious after 2 or 3 tracks. 4/5 for JL, 1/5 for the bloody drummer who makes the album nigh on unlistenable for me. If you forced me to vote it would be a 1/5. I'd enjoy the 'drummer karaoke' version.

I think you have summed up my opinion of it pretty well too, Jerry. It is Ok I thought, but the drumming is tedious. I wouldn't mind hearing the odd track on the 'radio' every now and then, but I wouldn't seek any of it out I don't think. Probably somewhere between 2 and 3, but based on this album alone I'll have to go with 2 I'm afraid.

Ah,OK, that's interesting, Pete. I'd kind of assumed that it was me just being a classical drongo who didn't get it. Obviously not. So I'll vote. Whoops - 1/5. Shoot the drummer and I'll give it a 4!

Intently? Bloody hell, it's mind numbingly, inescapably obvious!
Or at least so it seemed to me, and to Pete, apparently.
It's stunning and astonishing and amazing how we can all hear things so differently.

Yes, I fully agree with Jerry. There's no inventiveness to the drumming at all. I checked my Jonny Lang 'collection'. I own two of his albums, this one and 'Lie to Me'. The latter is just the same! The thing is, that on this album, the drummer is Richie Hayward, who is not exactly a beginner, having been a founder member of Little Feat and a session musician for...are you ready for a list...? Joan Armatrading, Delaney Bramlett, Kim Carnes, Eric Clapton, Ry Cooder, James Cotton, The Doobie Brothers, Bob Dylan, Peter Frampton, Buddy Guy, Arlo Guthrie, Al Kooper, Barbra Streisand, Eric Lynn, Nils Lofgren, Taj Mahal, Coco Montoya, Robert Palmer, Van Dyke Parks, Robert Plant, Paul Rodgers, Linda Ronstadt, Bob Seger, Carly Simon, Nancy Sinatra, Stephen Stills, Tom Waits, John Cale, Warren Zevon, Warren Haynes.
So, quite sought after then. I can only conclude that it's not the drumner's fault, but that Mr. Lang likes it that way.

It's a good, tight and dynamic recording of a tight band. The songs are not particularly memorable in that kind of pub rock format where many groups sound similar. The drummer definitely lacks imagination even if he can hit them hard.
Not my sort of thing, I'm afraid. 2/5.

I know what you guys are saying about the drumming but I have some sympathy for the dude as with a lot of this bluesy stuff there isn't much chance for experimentation, it's just about keeping it tight and allowing the vocals, keyboard and guitar to do their thang.
The songs aren't really my cuppa but all pretty well produced and played. Only song I really liked was 'I am'. I will go with 'not so keen'.
