Great The new Lakewest DAC board should be ready for the New Year. I have every faith in it being utterly awesome.

Lol… You seem right into this guy’s stuff now. I can’t really comment on its efficacy or otherwise, as I haven’t heard much Lakewest kit in anger, but I’ll take your word that it’s good. Not sure I’d ever have let that modded Eikos of Anthony’s go, though, (especially now that it’s A-ok)! Marco.

The modded Eikos sounded tired in comparison with Anthony's own in his system in the end. We did some comparisons at his place and they were interesting. The Lakewest DAC on the end of the 5-grand Marantz behemoth SACD player doing transport duties only was quite stunning and was quite an upgrade over the built-in DAC.
You heard the full set-up at Scalford in March this year.
These days I'm looking for resolution over "flavour" in digital playback and genuine progress is being made. It is time to look forward not back imho.

Yeah, I understand what you mean. The most important thing is that you’re happy. T/T stuff aside, I rarely mess around with my system these days, as system-wise (possible house move aside, where I’d probably get some JBL Everest DD66000s), I’ve pretty much reached the end of the road If you’re up for it, it might be interesting putting my T/T into your system at the next Scalford show, as a kind of ‘uber-digital vs. analogue’ thing. Marco.

In your case a bigger room (with a solid floor) would be your most significant upgrade yet, imho.
As I remember, your current room is pressurized somewhat by the mid-bass which, whilst quite entertaining in its own respect, can swamp the mid and upper registers a little at the same time as not really allowing the really low stuff to develop properly. Low bass is surely what bigger speakers are about.
In a larger room you could play around with JBLs, Tannoy Westminster or Canterbury GRs. I think the modern large Tannoy Prestige models deliver more in the way of speed, impact and attack than the vintage models even if the latter have their charms in other aspects.

Hi Steve If you are looking for resolution why are you running Tannoy's? He said in a mildly provocative manner Westy's stuff is good Steve, should keep you happy for a while I feel.

Lol… The presentation of my system has changed quite markedly since you were last round (3 years ago?), and so the issues you’ve described have been cured, rather interestingly mostly by the inclusion of some new CD and record storage shelves, from Ikea, which appear to have acted as a form of passive room treatment: …aside from neatly housing (in genre and alphabetical order) my ever-growing music collection! Also, when I want to listen to choons on a solid concrete floor, these days I do that downstairs in the lounge, with the Celestion 66s: …driven from you-know-what upstairs: Check out the rectifier valves (5U4GBs) you should be using, instead of yer GZ34s... The Celestions sound utterly stunning in lounge, and rather different from the Lockwoods. It’s also a nice space in which to sit and enjoy music. As for the sonic strengths of vintage versus modern Tannoy DCs, whilst I understand where you’re coming from, we’ll largely have to agree to disagree. Marco.
