It is unusual that I end up with a live album that has a nearly identical set to a performance I have seen, and that has been bought sufficiently close in time to the event that I still have some feel for its sound and atmosphere.
As I mentioned elsewhere, I went to see Die Seilschaft in Babelsberg last Saturday and after it I bought their latest album, a recording of a live performance in Berlin. Although that performance was recorded in 2018, it has only just been released and the playlist is virtually identical to the concert I attended as is the placement of the musicians and even the stories told by the lead singer! In some ways this is probably predictable as the play-list is dominated by the songs by Gundermann and is aimed at a fairly specific audience. However, what does strike me about the album is how well it replicates that live concert and it has clearly been mixed with great care and a lot of 'love'. I'm impressed.
I said that it was unusual for me to have a recording that is close to a performance I have attended, but thinking about it more I reckon this is pretty well unique. I do have recordings of artists I have seen live, and sometimes on the same tour, but none come this close and they certainly don't remind me especially of the event itself and feel rather 'over mixed'. I used to have a friend who had been in the audience of the Who's live performance in Leeds and another who was not only in the audience when Here and Now recorded a performance you can even hear him shout, "Alright" just before the opening track! I don't think we ever discussed the sound and feel of those performances though and I am no longer in contact with them is ask (one is sadly now dead). Now the question is, which albums do you have that come sufficiently close to evoke either the memory of the concert or even sound eerily like the event itself (or at least as you recall it!)?
