The SPU Gold was a cartridge made specifically for the Japanese market in the 1990s, after SPUs were rediscovered by Japanese audiophiles such as Ken Shindo - Ortofon historical products reference here: www.ortofon.com/spu-gold-p-641The lowest serial numbers (under 2000 - which this one is) have all-silver coils. Comes with with the fancy numbered wooden box with numbered gold plaque inside, and original styus guard, As with all my recent cartridges, sent to Holistic Audio in the Netherlands when I got it, Kilian declared the eliptical tip in top notch but said the suspension needed adjustment, which he did which involved replacing the suspension with original parts. Looking and sounding superb - this is a fantastic example. Looking for £850 for this including RMSD in UK. Lots of attention was lavished on this re-edition, the first of the special editions that most recently culminated in the SPU Century. I've had quite a few SPUs and to my ears this one being a really top quality elliptical sounds most like my favourite SPU of all time, the SPU 95th Anniversary SPU.
