I recently had a Sky technician come round and he installed a wifi booster in our living room which does a very good job.
There is a single LAN port on the booster which I want to somehow run two wired connections from - an X-Box and a TV set top box. So I have a network cable running from the booster to where the two components are situated and that is connected to a splitter like the one below.
I understand that you cannot have two signals running at once from such a splitter, but the problem I have is that it will only work if just one cable is plugged in at a time, which rather defeats the object of buying one! I don’t want to be plugging and unplugging it all the time. Is it faulty or am I missing something about how these splitters work?
What I need is a way of having both units plugged in, but only actually using a signal through one at a time.
I've got all the AV stuff on a 4 way extension block which is full - getting a new block isn't a problem but then have to move some very heavy furniture to get at the mains plug, which I'd prefer to avoid if poss!
Let me know how you get on Jules This would be useful for moi

I can only counsel that, in my opinion, any multi-way socket that is full should be replaced. One should ALWAYS have spare sockets.
I didn't use to need the internet, my wife knew everything.

Why Paul?... sorry serious question.
Never apologise for asking a serious question, Paul.
The way I see it is twofold,
#1 - I never like to see anything working to capacity, but that's just a personal reason. #2 - Jules is avoiding the best solution to his problem because he hasn't got a spare socket. What if, in a week, a month, or even a year's time another bit of kit that might improve his audio-visual experience appears? He'll have to nix that too, because there isn't a spare socket. That would be two things that would improve the setup ruled out simply because there is no spare socket. Hypothetical? Yes. Possible? Also yes, for the sake of upgrading a multi-way socket. One never knows what's around the corner, and a simple bit of "future-proofing" now can solve a headache, or multiple headaches, at a later date.
I've got a nice (bright purple ) Brennenstuhl Hugo! 8-way ready to fit when I (finally) sort the platform for my second system out. I've got an 8-way tower for my PC and periphorals, and these...
...everywhere else I need multiple sockets, including my AV setup.

They're nice bits of kit. I looked at quite a few solutions before choosing it. I'm going to be running it from a Belkin BSV102af SurgeCube too. The one without the USB sockets. Belkin offer a £10k "connected equipment warranty" with them.
