Thanks to MartinT my old laptop has a lovely fast SSD. Loving the speed. My desktop PC never had this speed before it died and I have the decision to make to either use this laptop or buy a desktop for my office. One reason I am considering a docking station There is a half way house though which I am exploring Bearing in mind I can break technology by being in the same room, one step at a time First up - obviously ! Connect laptop sound to my Chord Integrated and Isobariks in my office Works ! Currently on TAS Album Choice. The sound may be better than the old desktop ..... Second 22" screen connected to the laptop. Wow, that works too. A bit odd. Laptop screen currently pushed down so I view the 22" I like this. Next will be a mouse. Hopefully the cordless. IBM clicky keyboard via USB adaptor. 2 screens if possible Docking station somewhere in there

I'd have one of each, Mike. In fact, I've got 2 PCs, although one is pretty much retired these days, and my Chromebook (as well as various flavours of tablet). I can sit down at lunchtime (I generally try to avoid going online before lunch, otherwise nothing would ever get done around the house ) eat lunch, drink coffee, watch the TV news, and use my Chromebook. Later I'll fire up the PC (and Volumio) and get on with stuff that's not primarily web-related. You can't have too many computers.

Truth be told I have more computers than I know, counts 5 desktops in this room alone ! Admittedly they are slightly past their sell by date. Most modern is the probably terminally broken W7. At least one is XP. Not sure what the others are. I rescued them from being thrown in the big purge at work. Somewhere is my old Novell server too You never know when you might need a Novell server ! Being Mr. Big Spender I bought a 2nd laptop as well. Will continue to play with this one and cables all over the desk and see what I feel. Logitech cordless mouse works !!!! This has a web page back button on it too. Such excitement

All sounds good, Mike, and you haven't broken anything yet!
I have a tiny desktop PC with 27" monitor, three tablets and two laptops that I can remember floating around the house, plus Ruth's two and Izzy's upstairs. That's enough.
Docks are good for using with a laptop when you're going to undock and frequently use it separately. If you're just going to leave it as-is, you don't need a dock. Logitech cordless keyboards and mice are excellent, even better if bluetooth (no dongle).
Novell servers - aaargh, I remember installing them from hundreds of floppies!

You should be able to have the monitor and laptop screen as an extended set. I doubt you could have three (although my Surface dock has two Display Ports, but that's really unnecessary).

I run 2 large monitors from a laptop at work. Occasionally, when I have some complex stuff going on, I lift the laptop lid and use all three.

I use a large monitor for my main work and the Surface screen to keep the calculator and working notes.

I've just swapped my trusty Microsoft Surface Pro 5 i7 (dual core with 8GB RAM) for a new Surface Pro 7 i7 (quad core with 16GB RAM). With my dock and 24" screen at work, this will become my main workhorse as of today. With this kind of power, I think the traditional desktop box is dead except for gamers. Lovely machine!

With very little work, quite simply I have 2 wide screens running off my laptop.
With the IBM keyboard, Logitech cordless mouse it is wonderful. Computers being helpful !
Looks like I may even be able to add the laptop but currently that causes one screen to go off as I raise the lid May never need 3 screens. Will investigate one day I'm feeling lucky
Probably don't need a desktop although I will investigate further to see if I can get my W7 desktop out of the non usable loop it is in

I doubt the lappy graphics chipset can handle three screens.
Glad it's all working for you now.
