I have, with the Mutec, suffered it removed from the circuit and the sound quality definitely suffered even though I was using the not half bad Amanero USB input into the LKS.
I also used the Mutec with its standard mains input for a while before having it converted to 5V operation. Once running from the Coherent QP-1 supercap power supply, sound quality went up considerably.

I'd definitely expect that with the Mutec; since it's clocking the signal into the DAC, clean power to the clocks is likely to improve things. This point is possibly less relevant with the Oehlback, if outputting to an async USB DAC. But still, since it's also regenerating the signal, it might respond well to an improved supply.

We've all got pretty different set-ups so not at all surprising if the effects of re-clocking vary considerably.

The Mutec is a different beast compared to the Oehlbach

Just discovered that the Oehlbach PSU has been introducing noise into the system - quite literally, I noticed a quiet high-pitched whine coming out the speakers when no music was playing, and the speakers are usually dead quiet so my first guess was the Oehlbach - unplugged the PSU and noise gone. Think I'll be replace the PSU then.

Go with a linear PSU if you can, Tom.

I wondered that, but the noise persisted when I kept the PSU plugged in and disconnected the Oehlbach. The unit itself is fine I think.

My reclockers seem to be stuck in Poland after being sent from Oehlbach Geremany. Oehlbach cite the virus situation as being the reason, quite understandable.

This is development going in the right direction. Shame it's only for Superstar accounts rather than Virtuoso, at least to start with. /?sfnsn=scwspmo&extid=CIlnVvAWjHoluJZj

They're also looking at releasing a widget/upgrade/something to allow Volumio to be streamed on a smart telly I read on Farcebook.

The artist/album/song data will only be available for Superstar accounts according to Volumio, who replied to me today.
I shall think about upgrading.

I'm now in "lockdown is boring," and "pretty much just because I can," territory. This arrived an hour or so ago. Although it ( Waveshare 7inch HDMI LCD (H) 1024x600) does work as a capacitive touch screen my first try proved a bit "laggy" so I've removed the lead that provided that particular feature for the moment. The Waveshare comes complete with HDMI lead, USB lead, standoffs, and even a cleaning cloth, and is part of a cunning plan.

I would have thought you might drive a large TV via HDMI and use a tablet for the touch functions?
What happened to your amplifier wallpaper?

I would have thought you might drive a large TV via HDMI and use a tablet for the touch functions? What happened to your amplifier wallpaper? That is my amplifier wallpaper. I mostly control Volunio via my PC, but I thought it would be "fun" to have a display mounted near the actual Volumio/ATB installation. It's really only intended to be cosmetic. I've got just the spot for it, as soon as I get off of my arse and start work, which, unfortunately also involves clambering up steps to run speaker cable and swap my speakers out, which I'm loath to do at the moment. I really can't afford to damage myself, especially in the current "locked down and on my own" circumstances. It would take a 4 - 5m HDMI lead to run Volumio to my TV for "display only," purposes.

Ah, I remember the older wallpaper with the two knobs where the dials are.

I think your interface is pretty good Yes, perhaps the extra device is overkill. In terms of jitter, I think the interface will have the final say, and - insofar as it's asynchronous - I suspect reclocking higher up the chain won't have much of an affect. But the interface does like a clean signal, so in theory there might be some benefit to regenerating via a device with a clean supply. But actually the StreamBox is chocked full of filters and fed by a good LPSU, and so puts out a pretty clean signal already. Perhaps there's not a lot for the Oehlback to do on this side of things, which is okay - I'm more interested in how it can improve the signal out from my ADC. But I'm not done testing - can't really push the levels at the moment because the neighbours are in all the damn time. Did anyone experiment with alternative PSUs? I have tried a battery with my Oehlbach reclocker. The only way I could find to give it the 6-8V voltage it needs was to buy a cheap 5000mah NiMH battery pack used for remote control cars and a charger. It certainly brings a marked improvement in the sound over the supplied PSU, but I would like a better solution since the battery pack takes 24 hrs to recharge (I guess I could get another and have one in reserve).

That's very helpful, thanks - do let us know if you discover a more convenient power source!
