Well, sort of anyway. I've dragged the old 3D modelling software out and given it a run over the last couple of weeks. Firstly there's one of my NVA power amps. and tonight I finished modelling and rendering my Primare CD player.

Is it just an academic exercise, Paul, or do you intend to build them?

It's purely academic, Martin. Mostly I just wanted to prove to myself I could still "do it" after a long lay-off. I had to re-learn quite a few things about the software but also developed a couple of new "tricks" into the bargain. They kept me amused for hours, and I do mean hours; a lot of time and mental hard work went into the Primare especially.
I should also probably have mentioned that they are exactly as they were rendered, there was no retouching etc. in Photoshop other than to crop and resize them.

Sorry Paul,but what's this?
Do you start from a photo and rebuild or start from scratch just looking at something then build it in your software?
My brain hurts

Sorry Paul, but what's this? Do you start from a photo and rebuild or start from scratch just looking at something then build it in your software? My brain hurts Although I own both that amp and that CD player I did work mostly from photographs. Other than that I started out with the WxDxH dimensions, and that's about it. They do not, and will not, exist outside of my computer except as images. The idea is to "build" something and then to make it look as realistic as possible. There are people who do this for a living, and are absolutely brilliant at it; I worked with a group of them, which is where I got the bug. I've had no training, unlike the pros, and I can't compete with them, but I do have fun trying. As both of the models were hifi-related I thought I'd post them here. No dramas.
