I've just bought myself one of those Breville hot water dispenser thingies, because, living alone, I don't always want or need to boil a kettle-full of water. Anywho, this one's got a built in Brita filtration system. I'm now trying to work out whether my instant coffee, tea, etc. actually does taste better because of it, or if it might just be expectation bias. Obviously, I'm going to have to make a cup with the Breville and a cup with the kettle and then somehow mix them up and try drinking them with a blindfold on. Maybe I could get one of the neighbours to pop in and swap them around while I'm out of the room. I'm sure they wouldn't think I'm totally insane... would they? Don't worry, I do actually know the answer to that last question.

Kettle and Breville would need to both be powered by identical kettle leads with the same fuse rating in each otherwise the test will be flawed

I say this without a hint of irony: The difference between tea made with and without filtered water is night and day.

Now, where did I put those two Unobtanium cable Fukushima Daiichi leads..?

Our kettle has a flat element in the bottom so we can put only the water we need in. Except the odd dick head visitor who fills it up to boil.
I only use leaf tea and heat up the pot first
