I take photos with my Canon camera. Would like to continue, with flexibility. Size is 4Mb and larger All fine when I host on Imgur and post photos here or similar. Freecycle and Hififorsale want much smaller photos, 1mb or less. The boss has been able to click on "Reduce file size" on her iPad very easily. Can't see anything so simple for PCs. Am looking for recommendations or a simpler way than what Google brings up. Went down a long path with Office this morning that led nowhere. Can download a programme, if regarded to be safe or even go to a site that does it, again if regarded to be safe. Please type slowly for the slow of thinking

How about setting the resolution lower on the camera for items you want to use for Freecycle etc?

I have suggested this to you before Mike. Open the file. Open the Windows 10 Snipping Tool Click 'New' Select the area of the photo you want to copy. You now have a suitably sized jpg file saved to your Windows Clipboard. 'File' > 'Save As' > Give it a name > 'Save'
Job done.

Quick and dirty - In Windows
Right-click your image. Choose "open with" Select "Paint"
From Paint make sure you've selected the "Home" tab at the top. Click on "Resize" on the left-hand side at the top (it's small but you'll find it) From there I'd suggest you use the "Pixels" radio button and you can then alter the physical size of the image to make it more manageable. This should also bring your file-size down.

The best free photo editing software I know is GIMP. The learning curve is as steep as Photoshop but it's more stable (in my experience) and it works well.

If you don't get to grips with some form of software Mike (& I reckon my way is the simplest suggestion so far) then I recommend that you buy a sketch pad and some colouring pencils.

It was the "learning curve" aspect that prompted me to suggest using MS Paint. There are online sites that will do it too, such as this one www.reduceimages.com/

Forgot that Will that take it down from 4.5mb to under 1mb ? I'd do it now except I'm on the W7 desktop

Thanks Martin Almost certainly beyond me If that's too much, try my favourite, Paint.Net which has an 'image resize' function. That's kind of one step up from the Paint software that Slinger suggests, but not really difficult to learn/use and much more powerful.

All you need to learn are how to crop, how to adjust brightness/contrast if necessary, and how to resize.
You can use ANYTHING (even GIMP or PhotoShop) and learn those things in 20 mins.

I've used this site OK in the past. Seems easy to use to me (also a technophobe!). resizeyourimage.com/
