30 minutes with Sky via Facebook Messenger (yes, all other routes to contact them are too busy) to cancel the contract. It's 30 days' notice so just as well I didn't wait another week. Once again, they suddenly come up with a better price when you threaten to go: £63.50 from £92.00. "Oh but I see you've been with us for 18+ years and you are a Diamond VIP customer". Yes, but you didn't volunteer the price reduction at any time, did you?
They're all the same, loyalty is never rewarded. I'm shot of them in 30 days.

Surely Sky and Amazon are just different flavours of evil?
Amazon is addictive I find.

The boss signed up with Amazon Prime and uses it a lot for deliveries
I'll leave it to you to persuade her to give it up !

That's what I mean - once they hook you with the convenience and low prices it's difficult to say no!

I must admit, I got Amazon Prime purely for the purchasing side of things, Prime Video has proved to be a nice bonus as far as I'm concerned.

There are benefits to having Prime although I can't see I need them, apart from the TV bit

I've never had a problem with using free supersaver delivery and just waiting. Very often, it's as fast as Prime.

Starting the long ordeal of weaning Ruth off Sky Q and onto the Rokus with NowTV. Actually, she has nailed using Netflix and iPlayer through the LG TV, which are better than via Sky. iPlayer direct is especially better, it allows subtitles as she is suffering from some hearing loss. Also, the LG app interpolation from HD to 4K is excellent. The NowTV app works well with a few seconds at the start while it works out what resolution it can attain.

Our second Roku arrived today and I've decommissioned the Sky minibox in the kitchen and got the Roku all set up.
One real side benefit for us is that the wi-fi is not constantly screwed by the Sky boxes insisting on talking to each other by broadcasting their own SSID instead of using the effin' SSID that they ask to connect to. Many times we suffered from slowdowns due to someone watching something in the kitchen because of the way it interacted with the BT mesh system.
I remember the Sky engineer sucking his teeth because I told him we're keeping the BT Whole Home system. Now I know why, and it's nothing to do with the rather superbly performing wi-fi mesh.

Final call from Sky today, they wanted to establish if I owed them any money or if I was going to use the box office before I cancelled the direct debit.
I didn't like to say I had already cancelled it!

I cancelled the DD because I know, from past experience, how slowly companies can update their systems and continue to draw money for a cancelled service. I now cancel the DD and will just pay anything additional when they notice and call me. Much safer!
