Raspberry Pi 3 with Allo DigiOne S/PDIF board in Allo metal 'Darth Vader' case. I have modified the DigiOne for split 5V power supplies to further improve performance and take it close to the Signature model, thus the dual power cables (included). You can power it from a USB splitter but if you get a twin 5V linear power supply you will be able to yield its full sound quality potential. The DigiOne is an outstanding reclocker providing a low jitter S/PDIF output of very high quality from either BNC or phono sockets straight to your DAC. A warning about wi-fi: I don't recommend using it this way as it sounds worse than using an ethernet cable and the metal case reduces the signal strength to the Pi. Complete with two Black Ravioli pads attached to the base and microSD card. I can put the latest build of Volumio onto the card for you if you wish. £160 including shipping to UK destinations.

Bump - dropped to £140.
You get a Pi 3, Allo DigiOne modified for dual power, Allo metal case, SD card with Volumio. Ideal for someone who wants to start down the streamer path and has an S/PDIF co-ax DAC.

Dropped to £130. This must go - it's just taking up space and is a great streamer to start someone off.

Sorry for asking an Idiot Question, but I've not been following the Pi stuff at all ... What's the input from? Is it easy to get it to talk to my PC and get an output to feed ny DAC? Is that how it works anyway? Just tell me to bugger off if you can't be bothered - and it's no use pointing me to a 100 page thread.

.... P.S. If a long answer is required, don't bother!

Input is ethernet from your router.
Output is to your DAC's S/PDIF input.
Music is not routed via the PC, but your PC can browse to it for control. Or you can use a phone or tablet.
So it's a self-contained streamer sending high quality digital audio to a DAC.

The Raspberry Pi runs "headless", there is no need for screen, mouse or keyboard. From a PC you can control it from a webpage. You are likely to be familiar with this approach for operating your router or similar
You have the normal music controls... play, pause, next track, volume etc. There are facilities for browsing or searching your music library or streaming service
On a phone or tablet, you can still use the web page approach, but there is also a dedicated app which is a more concise way to achieve the same thing
In the next few days, I am more than happy to answer in more details since I have just started my school holiday
Cheers Sean

As Sean said, the Pi generates a web page with which you can control what to play etc. on any device.

Is that how it works anyway? Just tell me to bugger off if you can't be bothered - and it's no use pointing me to a 100 page thread. :) As an idiot, perhaps I might be of help: What's the input from?Input is down a network cable from your router. Is it easy to get it to talk to my PC... Yes, if you need it to, but you may not want to do it in the way that you are used to doing. ...and get an output to feed ny DAC?Just connect them together in the same way as any other transport and DAC. Is that how it works anyway? This is how it works - It receives the file/stream from your router. Your PC or laptop act as a remote in effect. With Spotify, for example, your PC will look and behave as though you are playing music from it, but all it is actually doing is telling the Pi where to find the music. Once it has been initally configured, the Pi does the rest. The Pi is running it's own operating system software (not Windows or suchlike),so it isn't doing all sorts of other stuff in the background, like checking for emails, running anti-virus checks or downloading the latest **** from Microsoft. It's totally dedicated to playing lovely music, nothing else. If you don't want to, you don't even need to interact with that software unless you want to change a setting or switch it off.

There are tons of people here who are ready and able to offer constructive and helpful advice, Jerry, and if they're not around, you can always ask me. Joking apart, at that price if you fancy dipping your toe in the water you won't get a better deal. I believe Martin's after-sales service is excellent too.

Thanks guys. OK, I think I get all that.
Ethernet cable from my router into the rpi. (minor issue here that I currently use my PC via WiFi in a different room from the router, and I need to be able to close the door!) Then digital output from the rpi to my DAC.
And somehow some magic happens to allow me to control Qobuz or Spotify etc from my laptop.
I think you can see from that what piece of the puzzle I am missing. 😊

You can run the pi from WiFi rather then a cable

I've specifically not recommended buying this to use with wi-fi as the Allo case provides a lot of shielding from wi-fi and I don't want a disappointed buyer.

Sound quality is also better using a wired connection. Ready-made Cat6 / Cat7 etc. leads are dirt cheap, and readily available.

Ok, everyone, it's Christmas. This is just sitting around doing nothing. £100 plus shipping.
This is where you can kick off proper streaming in your system. All you need is a router ethernet cable, a DAC with co-ax input and any kind of 5V power to start you off.
I can put the latest Volumio build on it for you.

I can put the latest Volumio build on it for you. Which in itself is worth more than a few quid if you are as good as this stuff as me !
