Well yesterday I finially managed to get near the new arrivals and was very pleasantly surpised.
The 'fresh off the boat' Big W's are in rather spiffing condition, in fact the 27ix looks like it just been let out of the box the condition is that good, was seriously stunned and that doesn't happen very often 
Also it came with the optional dedicated remote, and it's a real parler of remote 
Now for the later 9 series the three box controller and daul mono dac's

I have completely rebuit the 27ix from the ground up, including machined vent's in the top plate for targetted heat removal from the 60W power supply, now all sporting 135C customer capacitors, new FPGA synthesised clocks, some reprogramming plus a few other odd's and sods. over 240 pieces replaced it really has been a full restoration and enhancement project
How does it sound, well it measures good but not earthing shattering world breaking SNIAD, although dac linearity is superb as well are freq response with both channels having a mere 0.0.................... difference between them. Something that R2R' dac achieve (when correctly implimented) is something very special. The recent Nagra HD tube dac proved zero match for it and that is a genuinely decent dac no question.
The 9 series have certain traits I've not listned to in any other dac, while not in the MSB Reference or Vivaldi detail league; they out drag them with reddefining stage depth/texture and sheer presence. Plus the articulation and drive. This is going to be a Xmas project and a wee bit after as well Matt
Have a few idea's I'll be trailing with them!

Thanks for the reply, that sounds like a serious project! I look forward to hearing more about it as you work on the Dac.
It seems people are holding onto their Wadia cd players these days as I don’t see many for sale compared to a few years ago. I guess that tells us they are something special and worth holding onto.

Now that DAC’s have reached high refinement I would like to see a next generation of high preforming DAC’s incorporate a form of DSP (digital signal processing) and DRC (digital room correction). Done well, this could reduce/eliminate uncooperative room dynamics. I realize this can be done thru other means, but maybe DAC manufacturers instead of licensing a dying MQA license some decent DSP/DRC software.  |

I'm not interested in MQA or DSP, to be honest. I dislike tampering with the signal to such a degree.
I prefer the purity of decent room treatment and a good layout of speakers and listening position.

The Gustard is available on an promo in China for just £835. I'm sure it will be a lot more than that when internationally available.

Well fear not TI have just release a rather nifty way of injecting some 'Pep' into your dac. A couple of these puppies and you will be king of the hill, no more dac disappointment from now on... Slap a pair of these in the back end and you will be the envy of the audiphile community.........

Its a 400Vdc battery <> scalable 12Vdc 3.6Kw power module so put some umph in your dac ass end
