They appear to be larger than LKS and have a similar cult following. They slightly lag LKS and Audio-GD in technology, but the build appears to be very nice. I really like their displays, nicer than LKS.
Femtoclock, DSP, custom digital filters, I2S input. Looks a good spec. No sign of a discrete output stage. Promising, but can't say anything about its sound quality.

Here is an interesting DAC by Australian based March Audio. www.marchaudio.net.au/dac-1Very much a minimalist design - just a USB input and RCA output! Now available for £265, I would certainly be interested in comparing this with my Topping D30.

I'm going against the flow but I don't like USB (Universal Serial Bus) as a transport medium for high quality digital audio. It wasn't designed for that job.

The DigiOne outputs only S/PDIF over coax. If the DAC is USB only, there is no way to connect the two together.

It is a big leap over the topping Jules Hi Tony, that's interesting - have you heard a demo of this unit? I must say I rate the Topping very highly indeed - quite apart from the minuscule price tag, its performance is superb in my system.

For a hundred-and-ten quid less than the March you can get an SMSL M8a from Amazon now, Jules, if you're looking for a real bargain. Jerry had one, and spoke highly of it, which is one of the reasons why I bought mine.

Yes there's the SU8 as well now for around the same money Paul.
I'm not in a rush to change my Topping at all - it's quite a fast moving market now as we've seen in terms of new designs and I'd like to listen to some more DACs before being convinced that a really good 'upgrade' can be had for sensible money.

I'm going against the flow but I don't like USB (Universal Serial Bus) as a transport medium for high quality digital audio. It wasn't designed for that job. Have you tested the USB input on your new DAC, Martin? From my fairly limited experience it seems clear that the implementation of USB can vary quite wildly. My DAC has a USB input, but I use an external USB interface ( this one) with a separate battery power supply for the clocks - sounds much better than the USB input on the DAC. But one thing I have found is that, even using something like this, the digital transport itself can have a big influence on the resulting sound. I've reached a stage with the PC where the cost of improving it is more or less equivalent to that of getting a dedicated digital transport, and I think I'd prefer to do that - I had something like the sotm John uses in mind. But I'm following your I2S progress with great interest - it's an option I hadn't considered before it came up here. Things seem to be moving very quickly in this area at the moment - exciting times!

Have you tested the USB input on your new DAC, Martin? No I haven't, I saved money by not ordering the upgraded Amanero version USB input and I will unlikely ever use the standard USB input. I 2S is on another level from S/PDIF, which itself is very good in the LKS.

Audio-GD have quite a range of DACs and also it seems quite a zealous following from what I can read!
