Not sealed but suspended on a frame A few people have tried similar arrangements after hearing this type of set up

I’d like to hear a setup like that. Has your friend tried other amplifiers? I was using an inuke6000 for my UM18’s but just tried an MC2 MC450 and then a pair bridged. Far better quality bass than the inuke. The inuke sounds sluggish and lacks punch in comparison.

I'm in Dublin. If he's using the dsp behringer, he'd need to get external dsp if he was to use the MC2 or other non dsp amp. That new behringer is essentially the same as the inuke except it looks nicer.
The MC450 is a fairly old linear power supply class A/B amp used in high end PA or studios. They are also used in HiFi and have been chosen over Bryston and Mark levinson by some people. The new versions of the MC range are the S800 and S1400.

Ok yeah makes sense, the 6000 is 2 bridged 3000’s. I might sell my 6000dsp if that’s what your looking to get?

Nope with the Neo I do not need the power of the 600dsp but I know if I get a bit of work down to the power supplies and capacitors it could make further improvements to the bass. The Neo is quite nice, but they just do not go down like the UM18 I just do not have the room for them.

I'm sure the UM18s are wonderful. I think what's important to take on board is that this configuration of baffleless bass drivers is incredibly room dependent. Vic's room is not huge but it is larger than many rooms which are typically 18' x 15' at best or often 15' x 12'. The size of the room is a critical parameter given the massive losses involved....I love the setup and use some 15" drivers in the same configuration. This kind of setup gives the best bass I've heard in a domestic environment.

Yes agree Clive. This is why I could not use them, but if you have the space they offer incredible bass and with the PRV drivers will take some serious money to equa
I would also suggest that all speakers are room dependent

Totally agree John, speakers are very room dependent, especially baffleless. I was looking at a house built around a Jacobean courthouse. The room was 40' x 30' with a massive vaulted ceiling and gallery. I would have needed several bass drivers and many kW of amps....many!
