Nope but Mike posts on other forums so opens this up. I have not seen this type of thread/posting/offer on any other forum. Would Mike anticipate the reaction he might get on other forums perhaps? Or perhaps he was going to do those later. As the vast majority of people have quite different systems the likelihood of everyone experiencing what some do is very low. Even if I lived within walking distance of Mikes I would not take up his generous offer. His system is nothing like mine and when I have tried cables that a significant number of people were raving about I just could not hear any difference. They don’t do it for me. I have offered before many times. When I get around to it I start a new thread and offer. Bring some of your own kit by arrangement and we can set up in another room.

Mike
Apparently I am perceived as urinating on your breakfast. Have a urine free bump.
ChrisB I had not clocked your thread and now in order to contribute have posed there.

Mike, has anyone taken you up on the offer before? I imagine people might be... afraid one way or another (challenging beliefs etc).

Not from this thread, yet. Have had a few guys in before and they heard a difference. Also family members whose interest in music is not so intense as us lot

I first heard cables make a significant difference when Mike lent me a couple of power cables. At the time I was exceedingly skeptical but thought I would try them out, in some ways to be polite and found they made a lot of difference over the stock cables I was using, so I thank Mike for that

I too was sceptical until I heard one in my then Linn/Naim system Started cheap on Ebay and upgraded a step at a time assuming there would come a point when they wouldn't sound any better. Have so many Russ Andrews Signatures as that was where I assume it would end However they just kept getting better !

Have so many Russ Andrews Signatures as that was where I assume it would end However they just kept getting better ! I recently tried my expensive (£250) mains cable with my Simple Audio Roomplayer + and it certainly appeared to be easier flowing and smoother in a good way. Have now bought a mcrus diy Belden kit at £12.50 and it has had the same influence on the sound as far as I can discern. For me it's worthwhile upgrading the basic cable but only to a good quality, reasonably priced one. ;-)

For a good basic mains cable I'd recommend Supra. It's inexpensive and far, far better than a kettle lead.

Price is a vague indicator of goodness. Sometimes not at all.
Longer periods of use can change the sound subtly in my experience

Before all these cables are gone and just before I ship 3 more out I compared what I have left. Interesting experiment
Current system left as is - apart from the one mains cable powering the one box TAD CD/DAC/Pre only. Each time I plugged into an unswitched socket direct to the TAD
PC lead picked at random from the pile I have and plugged in. Not sure what to expect. Considering the price of about £2 or £3 not bad at all. Sound closed in, flat, lacking life and detail, narrow, slightly muffled and muted.
Russ Andrews Kimber Classic 1m MK UK plug, IEC £40 Definite step up and well worth the dough.
MCRU 2m MK UK plug, IEC £25 Slightly better than the Classic
RA. PK14 1m MK UK plug, 320 IEC £60 Another definite step. Well worth the extra
RA. High Current 1m MK UK plug, IEC £55 Similar to the PK14, edging it slightly perhaps
RA. High Current 2m MK UK plug, IEC £65 For the sake of completeness exactly the same as the 1m, but did I notice a small improvement .... ?
RA. High Current 1m MK UK plug, 320 Wattgate IEC x 3 £75 - already gone. The Wattgate sounded a little better than the standard IEC above
Rega 2m MK UK plug, IEC £50 Bargain. Good sound much like the HCs
Signature 1M Clipsal UK plug, 350iAG IEC x 2 £240 Sound opening up nicely. Good step up in sound quality.
Silver Classic <1m MK UK plug, 350iAG IEC £330 Nice step up
Silver Reference 1m MK plug, 350iAG Wattgate IEC £440 Another step up
MCRU Ultimate Furutech both ends £600
finally back to the current (!) Coherent BD plugged into the Audio Magic conditioner Bliss !

I do like a good mains cable. Been a while since I’ve changed any. My last one was a DIY using Acrolink 4030(I think) and Oyaide platinum iec plug.
