Going back to cooling towers, I was was once chatting to one of the engineers who had worked on the site in my photo since it's construction and he was telling me of a bet he won to walk around the rim of one of those cooling towers while it was being built. At that point in it's construction it was about 80metres high and the thickness of the concrete he had to walk on was 15 inches! No net!

The towers at Ferrybridge power station fell down (or 3 of them did and the others were badly damaged) in a high wind in 1965. Apparently some silly billly tested the design in a wind tunnel but only tested a single tower. The didn't allow for the interaction between the towers in a cluster. Result? Some big piles of rubble! And we think that resonant frequencies have an impact on our lives!

One of my tasks in life, it seems is to go looking for problems. Think it mus be genetic That one is fairly obvious in hindsight but then so many large messes are
We need someone who is a PITA and a nit picker, OCD could work, for things like this - nothing to do with the construction or builders. Then they need to be *heard* and their recommendations aired and acted on. So often we praise the 'fire fighters', not seeing what some very good people did preventing the 'fire' in many other places

Ha! Yeah right! Can you imagine the costs/time involved! Also think about how all the corruption would be affected by having someone(or a department) like that! The Scottish Parliament springs to mind as an outstanding example.
It'll never work.

Yeh, extrapolate that, mix in a few egos, budgets, timelines - ffff fun
Could be done, given the right framework and other things that need to be worked out.
Thing is this is a huge saver of costs and resources. Problem is it's in the future, not an easy thing to sell

I'm always getting stick for pointing out problems and flaws in other people's plans. It doesn't make you very popular but it can save a lot of time and money if you get at the problems in good time. It's always good to have a 'what if' merchant on any team!

Comes back to
Do you want to do a good job you'd be proud off or turn up and take the money and not give a damn
I also have the problem raising the what if questions
"If it can go wrong it will"
