Nice upgrade, Jules. I thought they might suit you. I think you probably realise now that Tannoys are never the last word in resolution.

I have always like the sound of Sonus Farber speakers, and the model you got have a great reputation so I am not surprised you are enjoying them.
Sounds like you have made a good set of upgrade decisions.

Any further thoughts on the LPSU, Jules?

Any further thoughts on the LPSU, Jules? Absolutely none Paul, classic case of too many changes at once! After I have some decent hours on it I will take it out of the system to compare to the standard PSU.

Agreed - not the last word in resolution but for me they do have a rather beguiling way with tubes and vinyl. Very dynamic and an effortless scale about them. I am rather sentimental about them so it's actually a difficult thing to think of moving them on.

The only thing really left for me to play with in the coming months is mains filtration etc I need to experiment with the position of the Isoplug I just got and also have an AC iPurifier on the way soon - picked up both of these on ebay. I'm also going to be looking at my cabling but no plans to 'go large' on this!

Ha - it wasn’t in the plan Mike - circumstances have conspired against me!

Quick update - the system is sounding incredibly lucid and compelling.
Very roughly, in monetary terms the speakers account for 3/4 of the overall spend which just goes to show what good value all my components are. The DAC and TVC both staggering VFM.
Various new toys to play with next week - some speaker cable, an Isotek filter plug and also an iFi Audio AC iPurifier.
I'm not going to do any comparison tests with the LPSU until I've got some more hours into it and more familiar with the new speakers.

Hmmm - a most disappointing morning!
First real experiment with plug-in mains devices.
First up the ifi AC iPurifier. Plugged this into my mains strip, checked all the lights were ‘correct’. Nothing, can’t hear any difference. Plugged it into one of the spare wall sockets, again nothing.
Next up the ifi spdif ipurifier - tried plugging this in-between digione and DAC. Can’t get any sound at all, so have emailed ifi for help.
Finally an isotek plug in filter - again, tried in mains block and at the wall. No difference.
I can only presume that my mains doesn't require any more help!

Hmm, yes, I've found pretty much the same with those mains purifier doodads, never made any discernible difference to me. I too lost my USB signal lock when, in my case, I plugged an AQ Dragonfly in the signal path. Just get your self a nice balanced mains supply and some Belden 19364 mains cables and you're good to go!

Well the 'good news' of the day's experiment for me is the discovery of 'Edge' phono cables from eBay as recommended by man like Jerry ... Silly cheap, I bought one to try between DAC and passive. Listening to Christina Pluhar, it is a more detailed listen, with more subtle detail in the mid to higher registers than the Klotz MC5000 / MS Audio. So I have just ordered one to go from passive to power.

Could it be so far gone you need more fundamental change ?

Shame they (like so many manufacturers) don't do anything shorter than 0.5m though.

The most fundamental mains job I did was changing the digione power from mains to battery, this made a massive difference. I have my Power Inspired regen unit so that appears to be doing its job.

You hear what you hear, Jules. There's no arguing with it.
The only comment I'd make is that the DigiOne already does extreme clocking accuracy so I wouldn't bother with the SPDIF iPurifier.

I'll be interested to know if you hear an improvement, Jules. I don't expect it from what I know of Allo's efforts to clock precisely, but nothing is certain in the world of audio.
