I just tried a single MC2 MC450 running 2 x Dayton UM18 subs. The amp puts out 450watts/ch @ 4ohm and sounded really good with the subs, only running out of steam at high levels. I noticed the variable speed fans would generally come on at low speed once the amp had reached temperature and seem to stay on low thereafter even when just watching tv.
I then tried a second MC450 in bridge mode giving 1350w per sub and there is a nice improvement in bass clarity and even at very loud levels playing silly bass, only a couple of the level lights come on. The fans also now only come on occasionally for a minute or so and the amps run cooler. I was afraid it would be the opposite as the amp now effectively sees a 2ohm load.

Those drivers need a lot of power to shift air. So glad this is working for you Matt I am interested in the rest of your system as sounds like you got quite a unconventional system

So glad this is working for you Matt I am interested in the rest of your system as sounds like you got quite a unconventional system Hi John, Yes, it's a mix of HiFi, pro audio and DIY. I've a Resolution Audio Cantata 2.0 feeding into a BSS fds334T speaker management. A pair of Digidesign RM2 active monitors that I've put SB acoustics Satori mid/bass into and SB ring dome tweeter. I use the BSS to apply delay to the speakers to align with the subs and reduce room peaks and also apply a negative high shelf filter to bring the tweeter level down. Ideally I'd like to see if the tweeter gain can be reduced inside the speakers amp. Then I've the 2 MC2 MC450 amps powering the 2 x UM18 subs in sealed boxes.

Love to see a picture I think the route you taken offers great value and should sound very good I'll post a few pics later on, there's a couple from a while back in the system blog forum. I've had lots of gear including PMC IB1's, a Krell FPB200, Krell integrateds, Chapter audio pre/power, ATC scm19's and scm50asl's. I've a couple of kids now, so value for money is important, yet I've the best sound I've had so far.
